Default How to mount a blow off valve BOV

Ok - I started a thead here requesting pictures of mounted blow off valve's to get an idea of where to mount one.

Now I need an idea of how to mount one.

1. The 1jz has a factory BOV that needs to be removed and cover plate put in place.

Now my question is this:

Should the BOV be mounted onto a separate mounting pipe which can then be welded into the IC piping?

-or-

Should we cut a hole out of the existing IC piping and just weld the BOV into the IC piping directly?

I guess the end result would be about the same; but there must be one method preferred over the other.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a fmic with alumn piping and i have the bov mounted on the IC pipe right before the intake manifold. Also I left my stock BOV in place. Ideally I will someday make a block off plate but its not NECESSARY

By cutting a hole in the pipe and welding the BOV over the hole?

what are the downsides to not blocking off the stock BOV.

unfiltered air is able to come in.. i know a few people with aftermarket bov's that just have the stock one removed with the open hole..

What i am going to do is take off the old bov and put the new one in its place and just cover the recirculating point. Its the easieast way w/o cutting and welding.

Do a lot of after market BOV's fit the factory slot? Anyone see any downside to this?

Anyone else have some specifics of how they installed theirs?

Default Bump

What's the best way to mount a blow off valve? Not where but how.

you need to get a flange for the bov and weld it (the flange) to the ic pipe or wherever you please and that's pretty much it

So weld it directly to the IC piping instead of welding in a pipe that the BOV is mounted on? I don't know much about welding, there would be no need to cut a hole in the IC pipe?

I have links set in the OP for the two methods I was considering.

Thank you so much for the response.

Most BOVs come with weldable flanges in the material of your choice (usually steel, stainless or aluminum). You cut a hole in you IC piping for the flange and weld it on. The preferred mounting location is closest to the throttle body.

You can leave your stock bypass valve installed but just disconnect the vacuum line.
