Default 96' sc300 oil questions???

I have a 1996 SC300 with 188,000 miles on it. I just bought it from the origional owner and he put castrol synthetic blend in it. I was wondering the following questions..

1- WOuld it be ok to change over to synthetic?
2- Mobil, Castrol, or Royal Purple?
3- 5w30 or 10w30
4- whats the best filter to run?
5- how much oil will I need for this car (guessing 5 quarts?

If I were to guess it would be ok to run synthetic, royal purple, 10w30, mobil filter, 5 quarts? am I on the right track... if not please explain

yes its ok to switch to synthetic.

I recommend Royal Purple. With that many miles you might want to go with a heavier weight.

So if i were you this is wat i would get:

Royal Purple 20w50
OEM toyota filter from dealer or mobil 1 or bosch filter

and you are correct about the 5 quarts

I agree with the Royal Purple recommendation, but question the use of 20W50. I run RP 10W30 and swear by the stuff.

I have a 95 and use 5w-30, of course the weather in Colorado is a bit chilly sometimes. I would say if you can afford it go synthetic, and use an OEM filter. I think its the YZZ-D3. (The one for V8's) it's a little bigger and filters a bit better.

I asked a toyota builder I know and he says he runs 20w50 on his gte motor that makes 1000hp, or he said it would be good for a motor that is leaking oil or smoking otherwise just use the factory recommended..
