I think the motor in my SC400 is pretty much scrap. Should I 1jz it, 2jz it, or put another 1uz in it? I dont have an unlimited budget, and I dont want to go over 2500 including parts and labor. I have a 87 supra that im turbo-ing, should I sell that with the parts and stuff and add another grand to the 2500? I dont know what to do, im still waiting to see if my motor is completly gone or not, but im feeling its gone. Let me know what you think.
i would buy a 1jz but i think it's gonna cost more then 2500. and u can only get a 1g for the supra? must be in bad shape or sumtin. or can just drive that around for now till u save up enough for the 1 jz. probably gets better gas mileage too.
how many miles are on the motor? what is wrong with it right now? I would just keep the 1UZ or replace it and keep modding the supra...don't need two projects at once, it might be a handful.
How many miles are on the 1UZ? If it is blown, either get a turbo I6 or a newer V8 engine, like a 97 or 98+ 1UZ with the VVT-i, etc. that has 290bhp, or a 3UZ-FE or another powerful V8.

I wouldnt reccomend that, the computer to drive the VVTI is not the same as the pre VVTI cars computer. Even if you did try to use it many of the sensors will be different on the engine which will further cause you heartache.
for instance the whole front of the engine on a 98 SC400 1uz is different from a 98 GS400. It is even more of an issue between pre and post 1uz/s.
Distributors on the earlier 1uz Vs COP on VVTI 1uz is another isssue that comes to mind. Every little thing you have to deal iwth adds to labor which will increase your labor cost.
To the OP: Just go 1uz and call it a day since you're already working on another turbo project. I would do exhaust and headers on the 1uz also while you're doing the swap.
