Exclamation Overheated, coolant leaked a whole lot, and now wont start

Ok guys.......

I need your help once again. My brother is driving the SC, and he's in Florida, and im in VA and here is the problem....

He says he was driving, car shuts off on its own out of nowhere, then he notices temp gauge at H, and a SHORT trail of coolant (around 2 car lengths.) He said he lost A LOTTTT of coolant.

The car cranks, but no longer starts. He added coolant and everything, yet nothing. Fuel pump is still operational.

Recently he changed the alternator, and the day before he got an oil change. Thats pretty much all the relevant history. He says he checked visible fuses, and they all seem fine.

Any pointers or suggestions?

car is a 93 SC400 w/165K.
Thanks guys.

Where is the coolant leaking from?

Does it have a CEL?

If the car stopped b/c it overheated, then reviving the motor will not be as easy as you will like for it to be.

1) Possibly could be a blown head gasket (hopefully not a cracked head)

2) Valves can stick open/close from the heat.

3) Pistons can seize up in the head.

Best advice will be to rent a compression test tool and test the compression for each of the cylinders. This will rule out a cracked head or blown head gasket.

Piston's can't seize in the head and if the motor had seized it wouldn't turn over.

Unless it's a terminal engine failure the motor will usually restart. Even with a cracked head or blown head gasket motor's will usually run.

If it turns over very fast then the motor has lost compression on a lot of cylinders due to a number of reasons.

It's not likely to be a fuse, time to take it to someone to have it inspected.

Matt.

Thanks for the valuable info guys.

He just told me that it leaked coolant from somewhere in the bottom of the engine, and he wanst sure, as he hasnt been able to put it on a lift yet due to all the rain.

Yes, cranks, and wont turn over. I dont really trust any knowledgabe mechnics down there. I really hope he can have it sorted, because I dont want to replace the engine (i'll change the trans while im at it for fun if i do) or part it out becasue the interior/front end have been redone recently. The entire exterior was also repainted a couple of years ago.

I will relay info as soon as i get it, thanks guys.
