What intercooler for a 1jz?
Anyone with the 1jz
- what intercooler did you install?
- how much $?
- custom piping? cost?
any recommendation or tips?
I'm about to buy a fmic but I'm torn between kits that come with piping (anyone have luck with these?), expensive IC's vs. generic IC's, and size (core depth, dimensions, and inlet/outlet diameter).
I've read that Supra IC's fit; something in the 12x32x3 range.
I am also looking for recommendation on inlet/outlet size. Most rec a 2.5" I/O.
What's the most bang for the buck?

this was one I was looking at on fbay just because it would be nice to have the piping with it to get an idea of what I am looking at and what I would like to spend.
I don't have my heart set on this one; but I figured my money would be better spent on the million other things I want to do than buy a brand name IC. I can always upgrade later; I just want the swap done!

Ebay 31x12x3 one will be plenty for you. My roommate has an ebay one of that size on his big turbo LT1 Firebird and has no complaints. I personally have a 31x12x4 which is a bit overkill.

right now im peacing together my setup as well... just get a big enough intercooler to do the job right now i have a Yonaka intercooler i paid 280 for it, its pretty big... your piping you can use exaust piping witch works just as well, but if you are getting coplers get the heavy duty ones not the cheap stuff that comes with a "aem" air filter, get the good stuff thats worth 20$ a copler, and C clamps MUST GET THOSE!....
right now all im missing for my setup is BOV (ssqv)
and boost guage and oil temp guage...
so its gonna get done next week for sure!

An unnecesarily big size FMIC hinders response. You may not need all that much heat sink. I have a 2jz T61 single on a 12x24x3 FMIC making 410whp. I probably could have gone smaller but I do put the car on track for HPDE events. The IC handles it easily.

I have a 2JZ with a PT67 and I don't think having a thicker FMIC is slowing my spool by that much, especially when I crank it up in a bit. But I do understand what you're saying.
