Default Wow. I am SCREWED! Something fell into the motor!

So I just finished the starter on the SC400 (what a pain).

I started it.... and I hear tap tap tap real loud. I guess something feel into my intake plenum when I was working on it and I didnt catch it.

Im ****ed, where do I even go from here? How small does the item have to be for it to go pass the valves and onto the piston?

another 3-4hrs to pull all the **** in the way to even see if I have to pull the heads.

Damn it. Any help?

Matt

Rule #1: Plug all intake and exhaust ports with towels, tape, whatever when doing work.

With that being said, do you know if the object got into the combustion chamber? It may have been big enough that it is just bouncing off the valves. Regardless, you're gonna have to pull the head. Did you catch which side the noise was coming from when you started it up? Hope it's just 1 head.

i had a racecar that lost 2 screws on one of its butterflies on an ITB setup and they passed through the motor without damaging anything.

that's kinda risky....You sure it's not just the common valve tick that the 1uz has?

pull the plugs and look inside, and look in them all just in case.

with luck, whatever fell in, can fit through a spark plug hole.

I pulled the intake crap again. I looked into what i could see and I didnt see anything inside the intake valves or what i could see of the piston...

now what?

could a tapping sound be caused by something else besides dropping anything in the holes? I dont see anything and I dont remember anythign falling in. I also plugged the holes as soon as I pulled the lower manifold the first time.

if a plastic piece fell in... would it burn up?

with the plugs out, manually spin the crank and look at each piston as it comes to tdc. you should be able to see a piston with some slight damage to the dome, then you'll know which cyl. to recover the part from. or you may just see the part/bolt/nut etc. sitting right on top of the piston.
