Default Engine Coolant Question

Is it bad to mix different Engine coolant, or should I just flush it first?

it's pretty straightforward just find the drain nut on the bottom of the radiator, unbolt, go make a sandwich, plug the drain and refill.

and i think it's ok to mix coolant as long as they are the same color

I'm probably just going to add redline water wetter to it.

Any review of this product? http://www.redlineoil.com/products_c...coolantFlash=1

i wouldnt mix it..and watch for the orange crap...i have read a few places that it eats aluminum.

go to auto zone or walmart, spend $6 for a flush kit, do like fista said and make a sandwich, then refill with new fresh stuff..

as for the water wetter, you wont notice a big change on the gauge, but if you were to stick a thermometer in the water in the radiator after a good long drive you would notice a 5-15 deg temp difference..it does work pretty good.

I've heard that its better to use the concentrate.
What some people to is stick a hose through the top to flush all the old coolant out, plug the drain, add the appropriate amount of concentrate for however much total liquid our system holds, and top off with water. Any input on this method?

Ive been putting this off for a week or so, need to get it done because I have some heat issues. Reading this thread has renewed my vigor, only one last question, I know if I search the internet i will find the exact amount for the fluid in the radiator, i know if I search here there will be threads talking about different this, different that...now...can anyone just say straight up what has worked the best out of them all? Not trying to skip the search process, but...

Thanks errrybody.

Just unplugging the bottom of the radiator will not "flush" the system. There are different ways.

I would open the bottom of the radiator. Open tank cap and fill cap on engine (for venting). Then open the drains on your motor block... (the SC4 has two, one on each side, not sure about SC3). Let it all drain out. Then I would fill with distilled water on all locations until clear pure water comes out of all 3 drain spots.

Next you fill it with your proper antifreeze/distilled water mix.

If it is highly contaminated, you may put a flush chemical in it (but not familiar with this, some on BITOG website have knowledge) and then do the drain and flush again.

Another thing that can help you after draining is to put pure distilled water in it without any antifreeze and run it up to full temp and let it flush the stuff out (since it is only about 60cents/gal) then drain it again and again until it does not get dirty anymore. You do not want to leave the 100%distilled water mix in for regular driving, just when flushing (for obvious reasons).

Good Luck.

dont forget to bleed the system no air in the pipes = lower temp = lesser chance for rad/pipes to blow up in the near future
