why is the 4.0 not more powerfull
I was just on intellexual.net looking at the spec. differences between a 92 SC300, and my 400. I am considering buying the 300 because it is a non-moonroof. I am amazed that the 4.0 v-8 is only 25 more h.p. than the 3.0 six. Dosent seem fair to the v-8.

A peak HP rating isn't everything. A flatter and fatter torque/hp curve, and the refinement of the 4.0 make it a very different animal. Designed to go for 300-400k without any major work, it runs much smoother than an I6 can, yeilds about the same mileage, and on the street is much quicker (although not it's not really very fast either).

It has massive potential and its finally being unlocked. If you are comparing 2jz to 1uz, its apples to oranges. Stock the 1uz is better IMO. Smoother, better power curve etc. But since the 2jz has such potential (thanks to the Supra) you can turbo it for not much dough and get huge power out of it. 1uz is slowly making its way (very slow) but people are starting to do more to them. The motor is cheap and its a smooth v8... turbo or supercharge, whatever, you'll get some power.

Well Im trying not to freak-out over the 300 with the hardtop. Its an older car than my 95, and from what I catch, doing the 2jz turbo has its share of problems and investment. Also it is an auto. car, so Im considering the options.

The 1UZ is definitely underpowered...And for all of the reasons that have already been stated above...But consider that it came out in 1992, that was 16 years ago...It was considered quite powerful at that time...And as stated, it's potential is just now being explored in the states...But, even though the 2JZ and the 1JZ have bolt on parts, they still cost quite a bit to turbo for any massive power gains...The power coming out now rivals the 60's when American muscle ruled the streets, and gas was $0.25 per gallon...Take a look at what the 1UZ was at the time, and it was a real marvel of engineering.
Some of us are now taking it to the next few levels...And it can be a well engineered beast!!

i just don't like how the red line is so low in the 1uz i wish it was at at least 7k + there hardly any parts past bfi exhaust and safc. i just wish more companies would pick up and experiment with the engine. ( shout out to tanabe for ur controbutions) i am sure this engine has tuns of pontential to unlock far past the 1 or 2 jz

You have to look, but curently you can get ahold of these parts (from the top of my memory)
Intake
Exhaust
Headers
Supercharger (Centrifugal and Roots)
Turbo (in the works)
Engine Management
Forged Internals
Metal HG's
Cams
Valves
Valve Springs
ITB's
Manual Conversion (5 and 6 speed)
and misc parts can be adapted easily.
You just have to know where to look. Remember this car is big in Australia

The 3 litre I6 (2jzge) engine was overpowered for its time. It had 220hp/220lb, which is pretty much unheard of, in its time. The NSX, which was considered a supercar, produced 270hp out of a 3.0L engine, with 210lb torque - and that power was made at high RPMs, and it had VTEK, while the 2JZ has much more linear power curve. Production cars with 6 cylinder engines displacing around 3 litres back then produced around 150-180hp.
