need help 93 sc400
i started to change the timing belt.... i took the serpentine belt off, tensioner pulley, exhaust fan pulley..... then came to find out it would be difficult without an air gun....... my first time doin timing belt on lexus..... i put the car at TDC, i tried to get the bolt off the crankshaft pulley and i think i may have jumped the timing.... but i put everything back together and tried to start the car but when i cranked it .... after a couple of seconds white smoke would shoot out of the intake and intake manifold... smells like gas..... it seems as if one of the valves is not closing when it should be..... any information would be helpful...... ps.. need quick instructions on either adjusting the timing back or manually doin the whole timing over...... thanks...... unless u have a different diagnosis for it.....

^^^^ most of the time the motor would still start and run. you would get a check engine light though.
take your time and do the timing belt. while youre at it set the timing back to what it should be. i have done several xUZ engines for TB but i never jumped timing. im sure a quick search will give you a clue on lining everything back up. good luck

I would say you're welcome but this guy, whom I've never met but the great Google yielded the results that brought him to us, is the one who actually did the work.

ps... I would think this is a great write up and should be saved and converted into a sticky or diy (unless a better one already exists).
