Default Heater not working- could this be the reason why?

OK, it's getting a bit chilly.. so I need my heater now haha. CL to the rescue! (well, hopefully )

I found this pic by searching the forums:

The item circled in Yellow.. I lost it- can't find it. I believe that's why my heater isn't working, and why my AC takes a while to get cold.

I removed this thing (charcoal canister, right?) when I did my auto to 5spd and NA-T swap, cuz I mounted a catch can there, along with my boost control solenoid and boost gauge sending unit. If necessary, I'll relocated those things to a better location.

My heater does not work. It worked great prior to removal of this unit. The vacuum line is currently dangling, so maybe that's why the valve isn't opening/closing?

Is the charcoal canister 100% necessary for the heater to function properly, or can I just connect the vacuum line to any vacuum source? I'll take a pic of my engine bay and the heater valve area later tonight, this way you guys could see what I have/don't have. Thanks again, and sorry if I sound like a n00b

Connect the vacuum line anywhere. I have a T coming off of my intake manifold that goes across the engine bay to that valve, I had the same problem.

Went to vato zone... got a vacuum T- heater works great, thanks

Are there any negative effects in having a lot of vacuum T's on one line?

I asked that on ClubNA-T because the line going across to the heater valve seems to be the most obvious and easiest place to T a line down to my wastegate, it's not recommended (just for possibilities of leaks) but nobody said "don't do it, it'll hurt your car".

afaik the charcoal canister doesn't have anything to do with heat. It's only purpose is to remove fuel vapors. The heater VSV up near it though would affect your heat...

after doin a bit more research, seems like you're right. It isn't related to the heater control valve in any way. I just thought it might have some relation to it since it was in the same area of the engine bay, and since it shared a vacuum line as well.

Gunnar- thanks for the info. I guess any vacuum source worked just fine. vacuum is vacuum, right?

So lemme get this straight (me heater doesn't work either, and yes it's starting to get cold), on top of that canister there is a vacuum line and if I hook that up with a T onto another vacuum line the heat SHOULD work?

That valve that controls the water just needs a vaccum source, My 92 supra had the same problem & all i did was run a vaccum line to the valve & thats it...heat..

Thats because the VSV is not working. I guess its fairly common. You can take the vacuum line going to the VSV(vacuum switching valve) and plug directly into heater valve and you should have heat.
