SC300 at 300 hp
I will be getting a 1992 SC300 (automatic)next week with 90,000 miles, it is in excellent condition. I have been searching the forums but I can't seem to find what kind of upgrades I can do. I want to get about 300 to 320 out of it. What should my first upgrades be? I know I want to do the cold air intake, and different exhaust. But what should be done first, and what kind of performance gains should I see. Thanks everyone for their help, and if this has already been asked before I apologize but I just when through 7 pages of threads and didn't see anything.

Your best bet would be going NA-T. You won't see high hp gains from simple bolt-on's. I'd say a Dave-H Kit would do the trick on relatively low psi. Search the forums for a Dave-H NA-T turbo kit. You will find plenty of threads that will give you information on pricing, parts etc.
btw search harder next time and this should be moved to the engine forum.

yea it is xs power, i have read different things on xspower on different forums, the dsm guys say stay away from them, the evo and audi guys have mixed luck the subaru guys have had VERY good luck with there intercoolers (less than 300 for a full front mount cant beat that deal) and i havn't read to many bad things about them from the lexus/toyota crowd i have heard of people running there kit for like a year or two with out a single problem.

Ive personally seen an XSpower's turbo fall apart. The pressure side split in 2 and it almost looked like it was glued together with Elmer's wood glue.
On a non turbo DSM forum I'm apart of has a few members this has happened too and there trying to find more people that had the same problem so they can all file against XS.
Just my 2 cents, lol.

I have a few XS products on my car and love them. Many 2JZ folks are using them and I have yet to hear any horror stories from our camp like I do the DSM/Honda/whatever camp.

For 300hp, a turbo kit is the best way to go.
You can make 300hp with the stock motor, completely unaltered, by simply adding a mild turbo kit with ~6psi of boost. Unlike a nitrous kit, the power will always be there with no need to refill. Unlike a wild set up, you will require little in the way of tuning. A simple rise rate FMU or an SAFC would provide you with enough fuel and/or injector control to maintain stock reliability.
I wouldn't hesistate to get the XS Power turbo kit for $1300. The XS Power guys stand behind their products, and their kit is more than capable of making the power you are asking.
Just be prepared to want more power once you are making it. Once you have a T61 turbo capable of making 550hp shoving air into your engine, you will probably want it to work a little harder thanit will be at 6psi on stock compression.

If you really want 300 or 320 RELIABLE horses. get a JDM 2JZ-GTE from an aristo. They're anywhere from $1,700-$3,000 depending who you get it from and how many miles are on it. It's a pretty simple drop in and when the time comes to put a little more under the hood... Well it's not like parts for a 2JZ-GTE are hard to find.

go turbo all the way! i agree with the swap to get there as well but with only 90k na-t shouldnt be to rough since you are not going for big gains. then again once you taste 320 you'll want 400 so on and so on...

Even if he was able to handle everything involved with the swap, the GE motor can not only make 300-320hp, but it can do it with reliability for much less than a GTE.
