Question Airflow sensor placement

Ok, I've heard from several people that the airflow sensor is pretty sensitive on the SC400 so I was wondering if there would be any undesireable effects if the sensor was installed on the side of an air intake instead of on the top of an air intake.

I was thinking of underneath, but heat from the engine might give false readings and lateral to the intake (on the side, away from engine) would look cleaner. Any thoughts?
