I am new to stick and maybe this is normal.

When I change gears I get slight grinding through the sifter while put the car into second.

The car only has 85,000 on it.

I'm actually not sure about that either. i get that when going into 5th, but all the other gears are fine. I'm thinking maybe the syncro is worn?

yup that grinding would sound like a mechanical problem, not any way to do with how you drive a stick even though u are new to stick shift..... unless u are trying to shift into gear without the clutch pedal fully pressed down.

Thats what one of my friends thinks too. Another friend thinks it could be the sifter bushings getting worn. The stick can move pretty freely back and forth. If I push it to one side to hard like I do when going into 2nd or 5th. I get a vibebration.

Sometimes I have trouble putting the sifter into reverse.

u need to adjust your clutch pedal, i have the same problem.

here are some steps.

1. Bleed the clutch slave cylinder
2. adjust the pedal
3. drain ur fluid and use GM SynchroMesh

if the above doesnt improve find yourself a new w58 tranny

As a test take the car out, before you shift into gear, push ur clutch all the way to the floor, like ur legpressing weights, and shift into gear, if it goes in easily your golden in solving ur problem with the above steps.

onyl adjust pedal if your engagement is right at the floor, like when you have it pressed all the way down. if your engagement is higher it should be fully disengaged. the slight grind is perfectly normal. the car takes the most pressure and abuse from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. i would ignore it but its related to the snychro. shifter bushings is typically an auto problem.
aamco can fix it for cheap

mine does it too s little bit. mostly when its really cold. does GM synchromesh fluid make that much of a difference?

Turns out that its they way that I was driving. I need to make her I press the clutch all the way to the floor, not pull the shifter so hard to the left (I always worry about shifting to to 4th so I pull hard to the left), and to move the shifter fast into the next gear.

i meant to drive your car earlier to see if it would happen when i would shift. but never got around to it! lol! maybe next time. but seems as though you got it figured out. from wat i read on this thread, if your having to push the pedal all the way down, then you might need to get your clutch adjusted. just a thought.

Maybe my dad also thinks I need a new bushing. There is alot of slop in the stick.
Is there any way to get rid of the slop or do I have to lower the trany and replace the bushing?
I do feel like I have to be overly careful about shifting in this car compaired to my friends evo.

Ever since I put the new shifter bushings in my car has HATED going into gear until the car's all the way warmed up. I'm flushing it with new tranny fluid soon since it's felt like it's a little low, and hopefully that takes care of my problems.
