I have replaced NEW:

MAF and intake pipe

Spark plugs

Plug Wires

Cap(2)

Rotor(2)

Ignitor Coil(2)

Alternator

Battery and cables

Belts

Vaccum hoses

Cleaned ICV

Bypassed Fuel ECU

Ran Fuel injector lube and cleaner

Flushed all fluids

Motor and Tranny mounts

Fuel Pump

Fuel Filter

Ect, ect.

No shop can figure it out, I am mechanically inclined, but I do not have the appropriate equipment to go further than I have. What is in the V8 intake mani that will make a car buck, kick and hesitate and miss? Something they did when they changed the starter is making it do this. Engine light is throwing code 24, 31, 41 and the O/D light blinks code 64. Don’t know what that that O/D light code is. Sometimes the car won’t start when it is hot and it will not accelerate past 30mph, it will constantly go between 25-30 back and forth like a speed limiter. Then two minutes later it will go 85mph on the freeway. I have tried the forums here, to no avail, the dealership kicked me to the curb, my shop won’t touch it anymore, it’s up to me, I have to put the car down If I cannot fix it. I have spent like $3000 US already.

24 - Intake Air Temperature Circuit
41 - Sub-throttle Position Sensor Circuit
64 - SL solenoid valve, harness or connector between SL and ECM, ECM

Have you tried swapping starters? Are the connections to the starter in the correct place? On the v8 I know you have to remove some stuff to get there so maybe something was installed the wrong way when everything was put back together. I can post the directions and diagrams on these errors when I have more time later.

Just swapped my started in the garage and wished I hadn't. Unless you have a mechanic buddy DO NOT ATTEMPT this. Took me upwards of 20 hours to rip everything out and put it back together, with the help of a friend. It's quoted to be a 6 hour job at Lexus. I just didn't have $1500 so I did it myself. Honestly, I'd recomment holding off until the start finally goes. Mine clicked and slipped for 3 years before I replaced it and guess what, my problem wasn't even the starter! Who knows how much longer it would've gone for...

Either way just be ginger with your car, turn the key to the "on" position for 5second and then turn the engine and you should be fine. When it starts to slip exccessively then take it in for a repair, until then you will have lots of warning before it finally goes.

You can get a new starter for 314 canadian, vs. 750 at the dealer and they'll install it for you but not guarentee on the part or work. Also you can rebuild the starter yourself for very little, there's nothing inside the start except the solenoid contacts. Lastly, if you do buy a new starter DO NOT buy a Bosch unit. I've read that even the brand new units are flawed, half of them are lemons and they're prone to failure within the first year. A good starter can easily last 10years or longer.

Car is still stalling and running poorly. After that guy said it took him 20 hours to change the starter himself with help, I have only myself and it is my only car right now. I don't have 20 hours to spare to take it apart.

Took it to the 5th shop last week, after $100 and no work later they said there is no LIVE DATA coming from the ECU!!! So I cannot even diagnose the car. The scanner tool with log function was my last hope next to prayer and now I just have to drive it with all the missing. They said it probably has a unconnected ground on the top of the block, clip broken or a pinched harness underneath the manifold.

Pretty sad situation.

Thanks for the sugesstions.

I am going to buy a new car. Then take my time fixing my old one. I am thinking of getting a 4runner or GS400.

If all this happened right after the starter was replaced, look into each step required to change it. Maybe they forgot to reinstall something. Here is a diy with steps: http://www.lextreme.com/starter.html

HA! My prayers worked! I decided to get smart about this and find a lexus specialist. I took the car the the 7th shop last week. I prayed for an angel to show the mechanic the problem- and voila that is exactly what happened.

PROBLEM: Lexus SOMEHOW made JUST the Crank timing gear jump advanced 5 teeth. So when you looked at the cams they were dead on the marks TDC and the crank was waaayy off. I have no idea how that could have happened changing the starter, but I do know that It wasn't like that when I brought it in.

SOLUTION:Prayer, Replaced water pump, hydraulic tentioiner, and timing belt and some minor maintance things. I GET MY CAR BACK TODAY!!! Finally IT IS FIXXXXXXXXXXXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BWAHAHAHAHA HAHAHHA AHHAHAHAH AHAHHAAHHA!!!!! j/k.

It wasn't the car after all. I knew it!

Now time for some smokage! Roll that beautiful bean footage.

I replaced my diff for a Supra Auto TT LSD with a TRD and got a intake and Edge racing torque converter. I didn't like the Precision Dragon converter because you lose all your top end. So I called up EDGE racing converters and had them make me a custom 2500stall high carbon 8000+ rpm converter to increase all the low end as well as IMPROVE the top end. True lock up compared to stock and gets better gas mileage to boot. Can't wait!

Next mods:
Alignment
Supra Brakes
Rim/tire 275mm front and 315mm width rear Azenis 615 on 18" CCW.
Header x-pipe exhaust

maybe body kit- thinking Autocourture Front end and Origin sides and rear, Painted in Glacier Frost Mica Pearl. Led mirrors, Veilside Executive wing. Clean X10.

After that I am going to Reupholster the interior in dark chocolate suede and cream leather w/ memory foam seat cushions. Momo suede steering wheel. Maybe Lambo doors.

MB Quart speakers it should be done.

The Shop just called and told me to pick her up!!

The Lexus tech said, "This car suprised me! It kicks up to speed so fast it scared me at first! I have never seen a Lexus with this many miles run so fast or so smooth!! You can tell this car is well maintained..."

with all the things you replace, the car has no excuse for not running strong.

Im back with a new sn. My car has went through some stuff, Still running with 256K miles. I have replaced even more things, but it has a misfire again, this time it will cold start rough. Then as it warms up it kinda smooths out, but when I put any throttle down the car misfires and hiccups so bad to the point of a throttle cut and kills the engine. So the more throttle I give it, the slower it goes. Less throttle the smoother and faster it runs. It has been doing this for a while.

With mostly all of the engine parts replaced, this car should run like a scalded cheetah. But it barely runs.

It is throwing two CEL codes, 13 and 21. Those point to the crank sensor and o2 sensors. All of those sensors are brand new and installed last week yet the codes are still 13, 21. Today I found a sensor ground wire on the MAF came out of the connector, but when we soldered it back in it ran worse.

Today I installed a HKS F Con V Pro engine piggyback computer. I am hoping even with no live data from the ECU, I can get realtime data logging from the VPro. I also converting the car to speed density and get rid of this friggen MAF. I dont think it ran well with this LS400 MAF ever.

Looking at the beginning of this thread, I have replaced so much, I hate to give up after all of this. What a nightmare. The worst thing is, I have to figure this out in 2 weeks because I am moving out of state for a new job. I need the car to run. I have run out of things to replace. I have run out of things to look for. I need some of your brainpower and options.

Anyone in Vegas with a 92-94 SC400 that I could swap ECU's to see if it is that?
