yes, we've had multiple members put out high numbers by turbo'ing the stock motor.

sc300dori, im a drifter also and im planning on doing a 1jz. my reasons are in the long run it will be cheaper and better for drifting. the main reason im not turboin a 2jz-ge is the fact that the intake is right ontop of the hot side of the turbo. we all know heatsoak is a major issue in drifting and that wouldnt be good for the car. but thats just my 2 cents

Yeah thanks for the 2 cents I feel like that would just eat my budget for the build I going to roll with a LSX series motor and tranny....I'm not really a fan for Turbo'd cars there trouble dealing IC piping and the FMIC block air from the motor I've seen plenty have issues in competition so its better for me to go all motor...And plus i heard the to turbo it may cost from 7-15 thousand and 17 thousand is my budget limit so thats not going to work

I second that! With the whole car. For 17k you could have one hell of a ride!

I was on SupraForums.com and on I-supra.com and they told me....I'm going to go with LS1 instead I already put in order for it earlier today...I wanted a 1J or a 2J but....I want something i can count on....Having a JZ motor would be sweet but I don't want it choking on me b/c of my right foot...

you can turbo the stock motor for way less than $15k.

Blk97SC300 just dynoed 465whp on his stock 2JZ, and I bet he is under your $17k figure for his entire set up: Brakes, Volk Wheels, Tires, Suspension, Turbo, Peripherals, and Tuning.

A turbo'd ge, a 2jzgte. or a 1jgte, will run out and leave a ls1,....... and be just, if not more, reliable.
