Help-a-noob Power Steering Questions
Well I have done my fair share of searching, and while I am a P/S noob ... I may be getting somewhere. Basically, I have a bad P/S leak (1994 sc300).
I took apart the entire P/S including all plugs, screw off pieces (lol), hoses, etc.
I cleaned everything to perfection, took of tons of junk and corrosion. It actually all looks pretty nice. The idea is to reinstall all the parts, and spin the wheel a few times, then keep checking for the leak. Seems like a good enough idea... right?
Anyway, I do have a few questions. Can anyone tell me what the parts these are? They are pretty clean now, but I am wondering if there should be any bushings, seals, washers etc... I have had some rot off in other places (rack bushings). I was told by a mechanic the my leak was coming from one of the parts in the pictures. What you see is what I got, am I missing any seal type parts?
Regarding the piece on the bottom left... which side would face up. It has two hoses that connect with clamps, but I failed to note which end would be on the top. The end closer to the writing, or the end with the black tab part. Which hose to which?
The copper piece (upper left in the picture) is in bad shape. I am going to swing my Toyota and get pick one up form the service dept. Under $10 I think.
I was thinking I should put this in the wrong forum section, as to attract O.L.T, who seems to be a P/S master. lol

Its a start, thanks!
I am gonna get a new copper bushing, cause that one is kinda bent, and when I try to bend it back into correct shape, it feels like it is just gonna snap. Its a brittle bastard to say the least.
Does that combo of parts in the picture have a tendency to leak? Any obvious culprits in that lineup? lol

Bought the metal pressure valve bushing today (upper left in the pic) for $1.95.
Reinstalling all of my 'De-gunked" parts, I guess I will be finding out the location of the leak. Although I am hoping that there wont be one!
***Update - All seems well, but I cannot figure out the order of the two hoses as seen in the pictures.

I need to know how these match up. Side w/ Tab goes to side 1 or side 2 from other picture?
Thanks!

I started the car without the hoses conneted. Be sure to plug the hoses while they are hooked on to the intake and the tube that goes behind the timing cover. Now start the car. One of the outlets on the pump will ooze power steering fluid..that is the hose to the tube going behind the timing cover. Hook the other one to the intake or plug the ports with vacuum caps from autozone. I did that and it works fine no complaints whatsoever. Good luck.
