sc300 vs sc400
well here's story, i drive a 5 speed 93 sc300 w/ a custom CAI, Unorthodox Racing crank pulley(if that really matters) and 3" HKS catback exhaust..a guy from my work place says he knows for a fact that he could beat me w/ his stock 92 sc400 w/ 22" rims and a loud system in the trunk, but everytime i would ask him to race me he'll look at me like i'm stupid...i guess he thinks nothing could beat a v8, he mostly race bikes btw..so i'm just really curious, do you guys think i'll have a chance of beating him if we were to drag race?? for the record i do know how shift and have nothing against sc400's b4 someones start askng me those questions..

you will definitely win, especially if it is from a dig, there are two other kids at school with sc4's and i can take both of them and ive only got the BFI and the kids dont have heavy rims or systems slowin them down. BTW, mines a 5spd like yours, i dont reallt think an auto sc3 could take an sc4 though

My feelings differ slightly. Stock for stock I will always go with the 400. Regardless of the power loss through the auto vs the manual, the torque in the 1UZ will jump out front and just hold that tiny lead.
Now, this tool you work with is completely not realizing that a 92 SC4 while rated at 250 hp is more close to 225 hp. The ridiculous 22" rims will just kill anything he has off the line.
Bet $100 on top of it. Force his hand and smoke him.

22" wheels on an SC....?!?!?!?
LOL... I dont want to say anything that will get me in bad with Forum Administrators... but you know what... I hope you do race him and beat the ---- out of him.
I have an SC4 myself, but that whole 22" wheel mindset... its personal... so wipe him out!!!

He races bikes? With another bike I hope. A 92SC400 with 22's might beat a moped. I witnessed a 800hp supra on race gas at 32psi against a ZX12 with bolt ons and that was a very close race with the bike barely getting the edge from a 30mph role and the supra getting the edge from a 40mph roll. There was a guy at a gas station here with a SC4 that came over when I was putting in gas and asked whether I had a SC3 or SC4 I told him I put in a 2.5L turbo and he just kinda laughed saying he had a "4.0 V8" and that it was a lot faster than my "6 cyl"........I bit my tongue and let that one go lol.....

You say POE-TAY-TOE, I say POE-TA-TOE. Line up the same year, stock SC3 & SC4 and run 10 consecutive races. worst case scenario is 6-4 either way. This arguement has been going on forever and it's like the chicken vs the egg conundrum.

Even if arguing that a 400 is that little much faster think of this. A 92 is going to have a ton of miles on it and this is a gross generalization but usually people with 22's and huge systems don't give a jack about engine maintenance. So not only has he weighed down a car that would be a close race in good condition but he also probly is only putting out 190-200 rwhp realistically. I say you win...now against me or a sc400 owner on here I think it'd be a good race. If fact I think you'd lose to any 400 with a torque converter and tranny cooler.

I do recall reading Car and Driver times on the SC400 and SC300 from the 92-95 engine generation (OBDI). The V8 would do ~7.0, and I recall seeing the 5MT putting down 7.1 for 0-60mph.
If the 5MT driver is skilled, he can definitely outlaunch the SC4 and likely maintain the advantage for a distance (how long is anyone's guess...3rd gear perhaps??).
I have an OBDII SC400, but my experience says that the car squats harder off the line with my Supra wheels and large tires than with my stock wheels and tires from the additional traction. It squats significantly harder than when I was on 19s from the inertia at the wheels even though the 19s had wide tires.
Thus, on 22's with a system, the SC4 will get wiped clean by the 5MT: 10 times out of 10.
A couple comments:
- if the guy is saying he is beating even a 150cc Honda, clearly he is lying
- if the guy is going ghetto fabulous with 22s and a system, why is he racing?
- nice humility around the pompous 1UZ owner. No sense ruining his SC experience.

Black_SC's car is stock performance wise except for exhaust, and he's got big heavy wheels, and he beat a local bone stock SC400.
And yeah I'm LOLing at the "he mostly races bikes" comment as well.

what i'm sayin when he mostly race w/ bikes is like them yamaha, suzuki, 1200cc gsxr, etc.that has been extended in the rear...(don't really kow much about "bikes") he do drive them to work smetime and be showing off like doing burnouts. i mean don't get me wrong he's a cool guy and all but i don't think he has any that much experiecne in racing cars...oh yeah btw my sc300 has 265 tires in the back so that might a little to on the launch, plus my sc300 has about a little more than 290,500 miles on it and is still running strong and is gonna be boosted soon..
