air intake tube on sc400 ques.
As I was changing plugs on my 95 sc400 today, I realized that the o.e air intake tube covers up a lot of our beautifull v-8 engine, and is cumbersome to work around. I have seen injen polished aluminum intake tubes, but would like to know if they supply hook-up for the large and small vaccumn hoses that attach to the tube? Also when you lose the extra air pocket that is attached to the o.e. is that just for silencing noise? Lastly do any of our venders sell the injen or another brand?

search on planetsoarer.com, they actually found out that the resonance chamber actually helps the engine breathe. think of it as a capacitor of air for the engine. I wouldn't recommend the injen intake as it's metal piping heatsoaked big time. i had it and returned back to stock piping with a bfi box and cone filter. but if you're intent on the injen intake, then yes, all the vacuum lines are given and the nipples are present on the intake tube

Those little boxes help your torque and throttle response a bit more then you would expect. Air is "stored" in there and when a sudden change in pressure happens that air is pulled up into the throttle body instead of having to be sucked through the intake and MAF sensor housing again. While the straight pipes are visually more pleasing, performance wise on these cars using Mass Airflow Sensor housings like ours, its better to just stay with stock. Those Japanese engineers are best at what they do for a reason . And as someone mentioned the plastic will not absorb near as much heat as the metal piping would inside the engine bay. I made a metal intake for my Supra before and yes it did change the sound of everything but the performance difference was not there. So its up to you, performance? Or looks and sound?
