Default 2JZGTE/V160 into SC300, shifter question.

I've got a 2jz-gte/v160/6spd rear end swap in my 97 sc300.

I have the following problem, when you shift fast/hard into 2, 4, or 6th gear, the shifter smacks the console area hard. So I thought to myself maybe the throw of the shifter is causing this, so I bought a C's short shifter and thought it would remedy the problem. Now it did shorten the throws and the actual position of the shifter, but when I speed shift, it still smacks the console.

Any ideas/suggestions, or anyone with the same situation that remedied it and if so how did they correct it?

Thanks!

IF the shifter vibrates at idle it COULD be your transmission mount is bad. You'll need to replace it....it happened to my b18 civic.

I have never heard of this.

I was under the impression that the W58 in the MKIV and the SC300 were 100% identical in form and function. This should imply that the V160's shifter should enter the cabin perfectly at the stock location.

Blizzy: The shifter fits the cabin fine, just when you shift hard, the shifter itself will smack the console, if I shift like an old man than nothing happens.

Sounds like an easy fix would be to remove the boot, and shave a little off the console where it hits.

I never said thats your problem...just said IF the shifter vibrates a lot it could be your tranny mount has gone bad....if the tranny mount goes bad, in other words lost it strength/stiffness/rigidness its loose and can cause for your shifter to hit your console since its not holding your transmission firmly. So IF and again IF your shifter vibrates quite a bit it COULD be your problem.

Where in my first post does it say anything about vibration?

This is a normal issue after doing this swap. The shifter in the SC is little more forward when compared with the Supra. A lot of people have that problem. Some have shortened the shifter link and bracket that go to the transmission to fix the problem.

It's especially annoying with reverse popping out.

THanks, i'll try that. I'll try and bend my shifter with some heat.

I wouldn't bend the shifter.

I'd try to clearance the console area. Also I removed the plastic
ring on the boot & rolled the boot down under the reverse lock out
****. Maybe the boot is bunching up in the back causing the
interferance?
Didn't have this problem w/ mine.

Edit - did you check the tripod for cracks?

Did this years ago when I was running a getrag.. If this doesn't fix it check the shifter mounting bracket on the top of the tranny if it's broken, this will happen..

If I remember correctly the shifter mount is a cast piece and you will not sucessfully heat it up and bend it...

whiteSc3: So your telling me triming the console will fix it?

When I installed the C's I inspected the bracket and it was perfectly fine; no blemishes. They are referring to bending the shifter itself and not the bracket.
