Default vvti vs non-vvti

I've already searched on this topic and a majority of them say that if I wanted to upgrade to GTE I should get a non vvti engine. After rereading the engine pros and cons thread it started to make me think. My 98 SC3 came with vvti and is obdII so I think it would be easier to just find a nice 98+ vvti gte engine and upgrade the internals, because that's one of the problems with them right?

Anything else I should worry about? Good idea?

2JZ-GE NA-T kit for OBDII models. Should be all you need, unless you want upwards of 500rwhp in which case you'll need to upgrade the fuel system and drivetrain.
