Default Wont start sometimes??

So lately I've been having this reoccuring problem I'll go to start the car and all it will do is click but the thing is after I continously keep on turning the key over it will eventually start.. this is after me sitting there for a good 3-5 minutes turning the key and pressing the clutch and when the next time it happens i'll sit for even longer then the previous time what would be the best diagnosis
Thanks in advance

it's your starter solenoid, it isn't engaging. get a new starter.

I'll second it. Had the same problem with my car recently. My advice: buy an OEM starter and nothing from Pepboys, Autozone, etc. I had one from Autozone and it died on me 6 months in. Same symptoms you're having, hard to start and sometimes just "clicks".

If your mechanically inclined.... you could remove the starter, remove the solenoid plunger and the two L-shaped contacts, and clean all the corrosion off of them. Starter will work like brand new (most likely).

You could also take the L-shaped contacts to any Lexus/Toyota dealer (so they can match them up) and get new ones for $20-$30 dollars.

Do not buy a starter, this will fix it. If you take the car to any Toyota/Lexus dealer, they won't sell you a starter. They will sell you starter contacts and charge from 2 to 3 hours labor for install.

Hope this helps,

KC

well since Im not that mechanically inclined would it be cheaper for them to install new starter contacts plus labour or just to buy a new starter plus labour

Well, unless you find a really cheap starter, I'd assume the contacts would be cheaper.

If I were you (and I ddn't want to do it myself) I'd take it to a Toyota dealer. They'll likely charge you less than Lexus. You could call and ask how much they charge for contacts, it's very common, so they should have no problem giving you a quote.

Yes, it should.

Again, it's a very common problem with Toyota starters.

I had experienced the same problem. I thought it was the fuel throttle but it was 'nt I paid to have that clean and to no avail it would not start again.
So I took it to toyo-tech and the tech told me that when you turn the key look for the yellow engine light if it does not show your car won't turn over. So we removed the starter fuse and placed it back in the ecm the yellow light came on and the car started. But when I left the with my car it happened again so I took the starter out blew some air in it an place the starter back in no probs since but going back to get it check out.
I may have to replace the ecm refurbished will cost about 400.

hope this helps
