Default cold power

I have a 93 SC400. It is spry as the 400 goes, I guess. My question is:why do I have A LOT more power when the engine is cold and just started. I mean lots here. Is it running closed or open loop for cold start? What is the overiding factor here...engine coolant temp? Is there some way to fool the ecu into "thinking" it is running a cold engine? I know that to make something like this a perminent mod would defeat the smog stuff and I don't want to do that. Be nice for race day though. Anybody know?

Thanks,

John

Default new data

Vwynn,

Thanks! I tried that search you mentioned and I got a lot of data. Nobody seemed to know how much but I did note that they were mainly talking about reducing the temp of the air intake. Disabling the EGR is a bad idea as it is used to LOWER the combustion temps and save your exhaust valves. You can disable the egr if you can get the engine to run richer and cooler is the data I was given long ago. I have personally seen engines fried because they had the egr disabled. Those were carb engines, please note.

The increased power I experience when the car is cold is under light to moderate power. An inch of gas ped and it roars away. I can do that when it is warmed but I have to give it twice the throttle. I would like to be able to get that throttle response when it is warm. Maybe block the manifold heater line or mod the coolant temp sender or does the ecu go into a different "mode' of operation for a brief while after starting?

Ant ideas out there?

Thanks

John
