Hi guys,

I just put in a new power steering pump in today. I started the car and saw blue smoke out of the exhaust. I kept the old pump on for 3 weeks after it showed first signs of trouble (was waiting on the part). The new pump works fine but i think somehow the powersteering fluid is getting in the exhaust manifold. Do you think its that or something else. The color of smoke is white and once i gain some speed it is quite less. Is it a seal? Or is it something totally different.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated as I am trying to do this by myself.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think there is a vacuum modulator / diaphragm of some sort attached to the p/s pump (sc400). If your pump has vacuum lines going to it, disconnect and plug them, if the car stops smoking, there’s your problem.

It is a SC300.

The car had been putting out white smoke a little for some time after starting thats why I thought it might be a seal. I thought about it after searching the forum.

Also if anyone can suggest a good shop in the San Fernando Valley. I appreciate all the help.

You are sucking PS fluid into the intake via the vac lines. You seem to have them on backwards. There are two coming from the intake to the regulator valve on the side of the PS pump, switch them around and it should stop after a short drive to blow it out.

OLT I will give it a shot in the evening and post the results. Would it have screwed spark plugs?? I drove it 5 miles.
