well, hell... Mitchell has the full diagnostic procedure for this, but they are in the middle of an update right now...

here's the heading... I'll post the full diag procedure as soon as it's up and running...

I got my sc300 about a month ago.
I got code 71, EGR System Malfunction, what should i check/ replace?
It has aftermarket exhaust if it matters.

71: EGR Gas Temperature Less Than Predetermined Level During EGR Control

this is one of those that isn't going to hurt ANYTHING... you can just leave it alone - it means either the temp sensor is bad or there isn't enough EGR flow to heat up the temp sensor...

but, if you want to fix it, here is what you do:
