Default V8 engine swap

I know this is a little off the subject, but.... Does anyone know if anyone has ever taken the SC 4.0 V8 and put it into the MKIV Supra? Before everyone tells me how the 2JZ-GTE is much more upgradeable and all, I know. But ya gotta love the V8 burble. Kind of like a Japanese Mustang. Maybe sorta kinda. Just wondering.

Interesting idea. I think transmission/driveshaft would be a problem though.

I know the engine will fit and the tranny should fit without too much work (I believe a few SC300Ts are using the Getrag 6spds).

I know this swap worked for HKS, of course, they have a larger budget than most people

HKS did a V8 Supra? Interesting. Do you know where I could find any info on that?

Also Matt7184, you say you know that some SC300T are running the Getrag 6 speed, but what does that have to do with the V8? Will that tranny bolt to the V8? Now you are talking!

Sorry, I had was getting myself confused for a second (forgot if you were talking about supra v8 or sc300 v8)

The Getrag tranny is pretty strong and with a new bellhousing, it should be able to handle the torque of the 1UZ.

The HKS Supra is a drag car running 1800+HP from a TT 1UZ (dont know if they used the Tundra block though).

Yeah the HKS Supra is just a BIT outta the normal price range...

You like the V8 burble and don't like the V12 sounding I6?
I guess to each his own, but for the money you'd be putting into that, you could have a wicked fast SC3

the I6 is the 5th best sounding motor in the world

1st is a Formula One engine (3.0L V10)
2nd is a Mazda 787b (4-rotor 2.6L 800hp N/A)
3rd is the Testerossa/512TR/F512M (5.0L flat-12)
4th is a Mazda 20B-turbo (3rotor 2.0L)
5th is the 2jz or RB26 motors (3.0L and 2.6L I6)

this is list is nearly indisputable

throw CART engines in there too since they sound sweeeet

A few to add to the list:

2001 Mustang Cobra
older BMW M5 (I-6)
GS400 with Borlas

Ever notice how crappy the Supra sounds compared to a hopped up SC? The dual outlets really help give it that burble that is missing from the Supra.

I agree w/ SC300T

The mustang engine has a unique sound that makes it so distinctive! It is probably the best sounding V-8 I ever heard. Blows corvettes and camaro's away (in sound quality that is).

How about the Viper V-10 - another sweet sounding engine

Our C5 sounded great!!!(Stangs sound better however...)

Hey, to me there is nothing sweeter than a Porsche 911/928 at high rpm...

Best four is the 2.7(250hp turbo) - 3.0 liter(236 n/a) Porsche 944T/968... Sounds bad ***!!! Also the RX7 for power not for sound...

SC300T what about the LS4 or SC4 that donated the same v8 to the GS?

Hey Bean I think the Nissan 6 is the still the best 6 on the planet. Well that's the award they keep winning, year, after year, after year, after year... Oops wrong thread...

Ikon, the 787b and 20b motors are not typical rotaries...
a 3 rotor sounds like a Ferrari flat-12... and sounds like heaven on wheels when revving up to around 13k rpms
the 787b (4 rotor) sounds ****ing mean... its not simply two 2 rotor motors put together, the 787b when it kicks up sounds like an F1 car on crack... its something to behold; there's 30meg vid of it floating around on the net somewhere

to All, No V8s were on the list, because thats just my top 5...

the 32v Cobra, the Ferrari V8, and the Diablo V12 are allll in the top ten...
I like the burble of V8s, but my point was that I6 motors sound much much better IMO and smoother

Bean, I LOVE the sound of my I6, with intake and exhaust. But a V8 burble music too. I have to admit I havent heard a V12 inside the vehicle, so I wouldnt know if it sounded like my I6.

It really depends on what type of V12 it is..You could stand next to the car and wouldnt know its on....hit the gas and it sounds so smooth...yet powerfull
