Question Has anyone cut out the center resonator?

I just read the long exhaust post and thought about some of the comment s that were made by Raj about eliminating the center resonator.
On my car I hear a noise when in park, coming from the resonator when pressing on the gas. It could be possible that it becomes clogged and blocks flow. That of course could be responsible for the 20 rwhp he gained by eliminating his.
What does everyone else think?

Question ?

I guess I was the only one to notice this in the exhaust post? It seems easy enough.

Only noise I ever hear from my exhaust is a ticking sound when the car gets shut off (havent heard it on other cars besides some ES's).

You sure it isnt your tranny you are hearing?

matt, just to let u know.....that ticking sound when u shut ur car off is coming from the heat shields. I think Lexus puts a lot more on their exhausts than most other car makers.

Yes mine ticks too when you shut it down. I figured the ticking was in the exhaust system somewhere. I am glad I am not alone with the tick.

Hey Matt,

I am familiar with the ticking noise when I shut the car off. This is a different sound. It occurs when the car is on and the car is in park. It ocurrs when I press on the gas... I actually hear a strange noise that increases as I give it more gas. At first, I thoght it was an exhaust leak but the dealership said it was just a clogged resonator. I am cutting it out next month and will post the results.

Interesting, you should try to have an X-Pipe made, shouldnt be much more.

Where are the heat shields? Havent looked under the car too much, but it looks like there are heat shields near the cats. Do you have a diagram or list?

Sorry, no diagrams or pics. I did however just rotate my heat shields. The were actually touching the exhaust and making a buzzing noise. I still get the clicking, but no more buzzing.

would it be bad you think to remove the heat shields all together?
which is the cat on the car as i haven't had a good look-the 2 pieces as they come down fdrom the manifold or after the 'y'?it sounds like i too have as exhaust leak but when my buudy had it up at mieneke he said evrything looked good.heat shields weren't rusted and no signs of leaks yet 2 weeks later i swear its gotten worse and sounds exactly like an exhaust leak.

Arrow dont remove em...

I would leave heatshields in place, they serve a safety function and our cars exhaust runs hot.

Try having the shields tightened or welded... The stupid crap emissions stuff, well, I am getting that pulled this summer or sooner. I get the rattle at low rpms at load - its in the resonator thing a ma jig.

the ticking is normal, happend with my sc400 also, more with my sc300 though
