Default having some weird issues... maybe someone can help

well i got my SC3 barely a year ago... i think itll be a year in june. the car ran fine when i first got it. and stayed that way til about a month or so ago.

note that all this stuff happens only when its a cold start.

first thing that seemed odd was the way it cranked. it sounds normal but every once in a while it would clank really loud in the middle of turning over. like it would stop, but very harsh, then pause, then kick up again like normal.

then after a couple weeks it then turned into another problem. the car would do what it did above but when it started it would run only on 4 or 5 cylinders it would sound rough and die. gassing it wont do anything. the check engine light would be on while its doing this. but suddely it will just stop and the CEL would go away.

i thought it was my plugs so i changed them out.

well now its getting worse. itll do all the above and now itll do it after 10 mins of driving. itll run on 4 cylinders then die.... while im driving. and then itll just be fine again.

but after about 15 mins of driving itll be normal like before. and if i shut it off go to the store or mall then come back out a couple hours later itll be fine... it just happens after like 8 hours of sitting.

i dont know whats wrong. doesnt seem like a normal issue.

maybe i should just do my gte swap earlier than planned. that will be a way to fix it

o2? the sensor can affect the driveablity that much when it fails?

i havent jumped the code yet to see what it is. does it stayed stored in there even though the light is not on.

i know in a honda the light stays on in an obd2 car even if the problem is gone. and in an obd1 car it stays on til you shut the car off, but it remembers what it is when i jump it even though the light is not on.

is it the same with a lex? cuz the light comes on when it start doing this stupid **** but then when its fine the light goes away right away

A O2 sensor will not make the car run like this (O2 sensors only work above 1300 degrees) Mass air flow meter???

What kind of oil are you using and when was the last time you changed it? Also have you ever ran a flush through it?

With your O2 sensors, there are advanced scanners OBDI/OBDII readers that can see the readings coming off of the O2 sensors.

The “clank” sound hopefully is the starter bendix binding up. That would not explain the ruff run condition that you have. Look at the motor oil and see if there is some “metal flake” looking stuff in it.

im going to jump the code tomorrow morning.

as far as everyones input. i think its the mass air flow meter. i called one of my friends thats a mechanic and he told me to do a test. he told me to unhook the sensor and start it. he said it wont hold an idle and wont stay on but when i gas it, it should not miss and lope like it did. and it was fine it was smooth but sounded a little deeper in exh note but it didnt have an issues staying on. but itll die if i let off the gas

when i was about to put the sensor back i cleaned up the harness a little and plugged it back in and it fired up just fine like normal

if its the maf do i just get the sensor or the whole part of that intake

but maybe thats because i unplugged it earlier
