Default Dyno soon, in all honesty what kinda power can the w58 handle?

Well I'll be heading to the dyno within a month once everything is broken in and ready to go. The only limiting factor on my build is my w58 transmission.

I rarely drive my car hard, but when i do its usually at the quarter mile track. My question is this, assuming I don't beat on the w58 on a daily basis, what is the max whp, wtq the w58 will take? My goal is around 450whp, but i was thinkin about pushin it a bit on the dyno to get some good numbers. Can anyone speak from experience with relatively high hp numbers through a w58?

#1 do a search next time.

and from experience, the w58 blew its guts out for me at 380whp.
and before that no joke i screwed 2 or 3 clutches up before the trans gave out. honestly dont beat on it, dont dyno it hard or your asking for it.
and im not kidding. i went with a v160 because i was sooooo freaking tired off all the problems, plus, i was about to make more power.

good luck

Have a spare tranny ready.. that's my plan.

Hope for the best, but expect the worst. Basically, I'm hoping the tranny will survive, but i'm expecting for it to blow up

They should handle at least 4XXHP but who knows. I have a R154 waiting to go in mine I'll stay on stock 1J fuel until I put in the R154.

As to the tranny it depends on the miles and your driving style. I made 400+ with my old setup with around 68k miles on the tranny.

One thing you will definitely need is a clutch.

Agreed x2. I'm hitting 410whp on a Dynopack Dynamometer, probably could add another 15-20 for Dynojet-- so maybe 425+whp. No problems with w58 after 14 mo. I'm easy on it, however, its does get wound out from time to time.

I don't wish Ben SC's experience on anyone; its probably a worst case senario and you'll be fine.

the guy from the Modified Magazine feature article said he roasted three of them in a month at 450whp. 400whp is pushing it; 450whp is over the line.

The r154 is a 5 speed Tranny? I'm going to be putting in a 2jzgte from a Supra. Will the r154 work with my engine?

The R154 will definitely mate to the 2JZ. There are dozens of MKIII Supra guys with factory R154's mated to 2JZ's that have been swapped in.

Have you had a chance to go the dyno yet?

The supra R154 wont work without some modifications. The Soarer R154 is plug and play.

By plug and play do you mean it will bolt into my SC300 and mate with the engine easy? If so, what kind of RWHP/ Flywheel HP can I expect it to endure? I'm only really shootin for 400 or so to the deck.
