O2 sensor question
Is there a trick (other than an o2 simulator) we can do to get rid of o2 sensor CEL codes. Like with the EGR, you can put a resistor in to get rid of the CEL when you do the blockoff plates, is there any reason you could NOT simply do the same thing to your o2 sensors? BTW how many o2 sensors does a 97 sc300 have total?

O2 sensors do not send back a constant voltage to the computer. Unlike a EGR valve. The ECU dose not send a referance signal to the O2 sensors. The sensor itself generates it's own voltage to send to the computer. That voltage will increase or decrease according to the oxygen content of the exhaust gasses in the exhaust system. If one sensor keeps sending a unchanging signal to the ECU it will kick a DTC. The signal that the ECU reads should look like a wave graph. This wave graph tells the ECU if the car is running rich or lean and it adjusts the injectors dwell cycle accordingly. As for the number, It is 2.

holy crap, thanks for the info. are you sure its 2 though because i have been reading on club na-t its 3, 2 before the cat and one after. if i went to the o2 sim route, would just one sim take care of every sensor?

My bad. I forgot that there was a sensor in the mid-pipe. THere is one in each manifold and one in the mid-pipe. total of 3. I sorry. I think that a simulator will cover one sensor. I have only used one once, and that was a long time ago. Sorry I cant help more.
