Question possible rear end problem with my new sc3

ok i put this in the main forum because i wasnt sure if it should go in the suspension area so if it does i apologize now.

anyways i picked up my sc3 this morning and went to fill the tank. when i left the station i had an opening in traffic and i accelerated out of the station as i was pulling out i felt something thunk in the rear of the car and as i accelerated i was a consitant thunking sound. my friend who i bought it off of sais that the halfshafts had a little play in them but this didnt sound good and i had driven the car many many times before i bought it this morning and never heard this before ever. now i dont know if something is seriously wrong or if the horrible weather around here just might have something to do with it. its about -16 out right now and i know from past expirence that has made more than one metal piece contract and develop a little play. but anyways any of you guys ever expirence similar problems or have any suggestion?

turns out it was the rear diff which blew out this week. combo of the cold and the much higher power output from the new motor. so new diff and housing here i come.

keep your housing and have an LSD installed. TRD is only about $850 or so, and it will last forever... i think they offer a warranty too. sorry about your luck, i had this happen to me in my last SC. driving on ice, then hit pavement, rear diff went BOOM! lol, yea, it sucks.

i wish it were as easy to put an lsd in the stock housing. but i shattered the housing when the diff blew. so new housing and new internals. now i have a new problem of the new housing has 4 1\2 size openings for the axels and the old one was 4 3\4 so i have to order another hoiusing or get new axels at the beginning of this week.

Moved to performance section since it was the diff.

Sounds like the replacement diff. is n/a ? Reguardless smaller
axles = Weaker. This is the time to upgrade, not down grade.

yeah i wish i could upgrade to the better axels and lsd right now but money wise it just isnt possible. stock diff and housing are going on for the time being until probably fall when i have the money together to upgrade the entire rear end and suspension. this car is my daily driver so getting it back on the road quickly is a priority, which means letting it sit broken while waiting on money to upgrade isnt an option.

Are you sure you don't have 6 speed rear end?

the shop that is doing the work called me over and showed me everything. the tag from the shipping containter on the new diff says 93, sc3,auto. so unless their distributer ****ed it up i dont know. but i am almost positive i dont have a supra 6spd rear or a sc3 5spd rear.

Thats what I'm saying. The replacement is a N/A rear.

i guess the one that was on there when i bought the car could be a 6speed rear and the one i just got is a stock sc3 NA rear. I bought the car off a friend of mine and as long as he had it he did no rear end work on it what so ever. so if that is the case then the original owner in texas had it replaced and my friend never knew about it. either way i find out more in the morning. i'll keep ya'll posted.

so problem has been solved. they sent the wrong diff. they sent one off a 97+ sc3 auto. so new one comes in tomorrow and hopefully i should have my car back by tomorrow night. i've been without my car for over a week now and its frustrating the hell out of me.
