Default OBDII + Turbo?

After doing a good 3 hours worth of research on this one topic and finding the answer, i decided to register and post the the question on the forums.
I have read that the 1995-1997 5 speeds are best suited for thea 6 speed swap because of the enlarged transmission tunnel. I have my eye set on a very nice 1996 5speed and i am planning on putting a single turbo on it.
The main question that i have is that would a SAFC be able to control the Fuel in a OBDII? Are there any cons for choosing the 96 over the 95 when going turbo?

One more question, is the Automatic Transmission on the Supra TT the same as the SC300?

The 96 isnt OBDII, so you dont have to worry about it.

Im pretty sure all 1996 and above vehicles that are sold in the USA are OBD II.

Yea, I am pretty sure you're wrong (I'm being sarcastic). 96 "was" the first year of OBDII.

You will have better luck with the map-ecu with your car since it's OBD II...until your oem ecu "relearns" then you have to keep resetting your ecu . Get a stand alone ECU, don't waste time with piggy-back computers.

A standalone is Always the better choice, but i do not wish to spend over 1000 on fuel management when i am only looking for ~350 hp.
So a SAFC can not tune OBD II? So a 95 will be a better option for me correct?

Yes a SAFC can tune and OBD2 car. I have one on my car and am pushing 500rwhp. I have been running it for quite a few years and have run it with both superchargers and turbochargers. I have run it with 310 injectors, 370 injectors and now with 440 injectors.

either way, map-ecu is still better than SAFC.

96 works well if mapecu, but will require a near perfect tune for best results.

veritek is using a Map ecu on his GS300 and has had some issues getting it to tune. Evidently the Cars ECU keeps trying to overcome the Map ECU.

From what I read the new Mapecu2 is supposed to resolve that issue.

You're going NA-T on the 2jzge, so you may want to spend some time over on clubna-t.com and on the Supraforums na-t section. You'll find that for the very modest numbers you're after the SAFC is more than up to the task and is in wide use. Yes, the MAP-ECU has more to offer, you're not going there yet from what you've said. You'll be able to recoup much of the cost of the SAFC if you resell it if you feel its not working out.

My 2jz-gte has a SAFC2 controlling the fuel on an OBD-I and easily make low to mid 400's with it. My issue is exceeding the w58 transmission's capabilities more than the SAFC2's. Regardless, until I get better at this, I rarely exceed 16psi because of wheel spin/traction issues at 3/4 to WOT through third gear on ten inch rubber.

Thank you for such a soild answer.

Are the map ECUs just a program or a whole new unit that replaces the stock ecu?
