Default Why don't more people use the TT SMIC?

Most na-t setups I've seen are using the xspower or ebay intercoolers as inexpensice options.
Why not use the tt smic with custom piping? How much will this flow? 400, 450whp?

Thx

A friend of mine made 410 whp through an auto trans (w/ 4k stall) on the stock SMIC... ran an 11.9... then added a 50 shot and went low 11's....

FMIC gets a more air flow but the main reason is to just show off.

I would eventually like to have a FMIC but I like my TT SMIC. It hasn't let me down yet and plus no one can tell I am turbo b/c you can't see it.

Thanks for the replies. Thing is, I like the stealthy/inexpensive route.

So what are the limitations of the stock smic? (I don't plan on more than 450whp cause im 5 spd)

most poeple get it bc its soooooo cheap, i dont know how much a stock smic is but i remember i got my ebay IC for 200 shipped. and on my honda it held 19psi just fine and cooled VERY well... i made 504whp

i suppose if youre gonna spend a small amount of money why not just get the one that is better? the ebay one

in a turbo car heat is your enemy... the cooler the air less chance of detonation and such... not only that im sure the large front mount can yeild just a little more power at the same boost level than the stock one can

its just logical to get the large cheap one... theyre actually very good products for the cheap price

ya know, not too long ago, one of the major DSM vendors did a direct comparison on an EVO of the stock IC, their aftermarket IC, and an ebay IC that copied their design... Basically, put one car on the dyno, and the only difference was the IC, they even used the smae upgraded IC piping for all three... in the end, the ebay IC made the LEAST power, the stock IC making more, and the aftermarket one making the most...

you can find the data on the EVO forum...
