Default 98 SC400 Exhaust Measurements/Specs

I searched.

I just bought a stock 98 SC400. I would like to modify the exhaust system on this with Magnaflow for its cost and great reviews/looks.

I have been searching for the measurements on the exhaust pipes and from what I can gather is the below:

from engine to headers the exhausts flows into 2 2.25" pipes.
from there each pipe has a 2.25" Cat.
the pipes feed into a 2 in 1: 2.25"in 2.5"out cat/resonator
After a long stretch the 2.5 pipt splits again through a Y/Cross member back into dual 2.25"?? which then hits the two HUGE resonators in the back before finally leaving the car and into the atmosphere.

What magnaflow parts would I need to keep this car as close to stock quiet as possible, but with a performance gain. I'm tired of loud rumbling wake the neighbors/dead cars. I previously drove a 2001 Celica GTS with TRD exhaust. Very loud 4banger.

Im still having trouble figuring out if the 98 sc4's have 3 cats or 3 resonators.

For performance, always a tru dual exhaust. If you want to quiet yours down, i would suggest delete the 3 factory resonators, buy 2 2.25 magnaflow resonators, and get custom mandrel bent exhaust.

To help illustrate wut im talking about, look at my illustration. lol

hope this helps, it will still be kinda loud at WOT, but when ur cruising in ur neighborhood, it shouldnt be too bad.

that's a nice illustration of the exhaust.

I'm unsure of why the Exhaust flow goes through all these paths as it does. perhaps to keep back pressure and low end torque?

In your diagram you suggest deleting the Center 2 in 1 cat, converting to a custom X-pipe and adding in two more high flow resonators.

I'm assuming this would increase flow since the exhaust goes through 2 instead of 1, finally reaching the stock mufflers. Wouldnt the replacement of these increase horsies?

Coffee time.

Most that go this route delete the center resonator do not add new resonators. No need. Also replace the stock cats with high flow units. X-pipe and magnaflows and you're set.

thanks for this information.

The best bet on my 98 SC is replace the front 2 Cats,
put in a 2.25" magnaflow X pipe from the cats, then a custom 2.25" pipe from the X into 2 resonator/mufflers and then the exhaust tips?

I'm assuming the X pipe is for back pressure to maintain low end.

you are brave. no resonators is going to be loud.
