Stock horsepower?? 177??
I had my 99 SC300 on a dyno yesterday and the max HP was 177 The factory says it has 225 HP!! anyone knows whats the deal? is it because of California emission regulations?
Very peculiar

that's 225hp at the fly. your putting down 177 to your rear wheels, a loss of ~21.4% through the drivetrain isn't bad (taking account of the ecu, conditions, etc). by the way, all car companies advertise the horsepower at the fly

Peterm that is a good result. BTW where did you do the dyno run? I have been looking for a place in LA but they say they do not want to do a dyno run with a car going up to 6500RPM. Basically they want to do smog checks only. I am in the area and would be much obliged if you can share the info.

I work at a Merceds dealer in the Orange County area, so I used their smog dyno, but it was a favor. they don't do it normally. There's a performance store in Westminster called St. Andres that can do it for you!just look up they're number in the yellow pages.
Hope that helps!!

Auto manufacturers rate engine output at the crankshaft. The transmission, driveshaft, differential, axles, bearings, brakes, tires/wheels, etc... all have weight and friction and therefore take power to move. When you measure power at the tires you are measuring the engines output MINUS the drivetrain power requirements. On a manual transmission vehicle the loss is generally around 50hp, on an automatic transmission vehicle the loss is usually around 70hp. This varies depending on vehicle type and equipment. Many use a percentage to predict engine power based on tire measured power. In actuallity, the power loss number is more or less fixed for any given RPM range.
Interestingly, a 5 speed SC300 will generally dyno close to an automatic SC400 in peak horsepower but the 400 will have more torque and it makes it lower in the RPM range. The torque means there is more power across the RPM range of the engine making it a faster car.
BTW, 177hp for your car sounds about right.

was at 19psi and a 75 shot.......working on posting the dyno..computerwiz is gonna post it.....car is running beautifuly....what hp did you have on the dyno for your 10.86 run?.....Jeff

Hey Jeff, I ran at 20psi and 75shot for the 10.86 run, but I never dyno'd at that level. I just dyno'd last weekend, getting the 780cc injectors dialed in... made 511rwhp at 25psi and 602 rwhp with 25psi and the 75 shot. I think the high stall converter really adds a lot of driveline loss. My sheets are on my home page at www.speedtoys.com/~daveh/93na-t
Let me know when you get your sheets posted.

hmmm...so at 20 and nos.....i might be able to hit a high 10 on this current set up...but im about to goto haltech and lil bigger turbo...going for 600rear wheeel on booost..then 75 shot on top of it.....we will see how it goes...sounds like ur cars running great....you running speed pro?.....when ya going to 30psi?....hows the tranny holding?...good to hear from ya..Jeff

Hey Jeff, I figure i was in the 550rwhp range with 20psi/75shot, so yeah you should be able to get a high 10 if you can cut a good 60'. I have a little easier time getting a good 60' with the auto, but I bet you can do it with the 6-speed too. Have you weighed your car? Mine is 3620lbs with me in it.
I'm still using the stock ECU with a VPC and AFC. I'm going with a bigger turbing housing, and then will try a little more boost. I actually tried 27psi, but it didn't make any more hp than 25psi, so I didn't push it any farther.
The tranny is holding good so far, I'm getting a higher stall converter in the hopes of cutting better 60's, and getting one that I can lock up on top end.
What turbo are you planning on running? You are still running a stock engine also right? Any thoughts on building the engine?
