why 1jz
Why do so many guys convert to 1jz insted of 2jz. They cost the same or maybe more, they are smaller. Witch means slower spool and less power.
I did a 2jz conversion with a t-61 single and I love it. The 2jz makes 18spi at 3200 to 3500 rpm. If I had a 1jz that turbo would'nt spool until 4000 to 4500 rpm. The only good thing is they must rev higher.

cost the same???? what 1jz are u talkin about? cause ive seen complete swaps go for about 2500 or less. thats a front clip mind you... complete motor/trannies go for about 1700-1800 too so no they definately do not cost the same. but i guess the added cost of finding the rare soarer r154 is expensive compared to the mk3 1jz set. also 1jz have ceramic turbos too.. which i think will spool faster than 4000. also dont underestimate the potential of the 1jz. ive seen an article that said u can get 500 hp with stock everything by upgrading the turbos to twin kkk k26, but dont quote me on that. its a good median between its cost/power/potential so people on a tight budget like it for its versatility

i did the 1JZ swap 3 years ago because I was enamoured with the Soarer since I was in high school back in 1997. I wanted to build a SC300 as close to a true soarer as possible. I even waited 4 months to get an original 1995 soarer front clip with a soarer R154. I had no clue that the swap would even get close to being this popular.

2nd: swaps are 10x easier with a 1jz
3rd: slower spool?? i have no lag buddy

1jz swaps are downright cheap in comparison....
2.5l is plenty of motor, also considering the lower reciprocating weight is lower as well, meaning higher revs on top of it all...
someone just recently posted a full spooled gt35r at 23 psi at 4200 rpm, which actually seemed high to me, a friends EVO I built (2.0 liter) spooled the same turbo at 4000 rpm, but it has cams...

lag? never got any with mines .my turbo spools up right after 3000 rpm .the 1j is way cheaper than a 2j swap .they are both good motors .its jus how deep your pocket is when it comes to buying a 2j

I guess he's saying the T61 will take longer to spool on the 1J versus the 2J. The 1J is the best bang for the buck. Tuning was also a key factor in my decision to go that route.
Here's my 1J SC at 10psi against a Z06 from a 10mph roll.

Wow I did'nt know how protective you guys are about the 1jz conversions.
I ment lag with single conversions, not the stock ceramic turbos.
I paied 1,800 for my jdm 2jz motor. How much are the 1jz motors?
How much rwhp do you estimate a 1jz with the ceramic twinns will produce. I dumped the ceramic twinns becouse I heard they can not handle boost over 16spi for a long time, is this true?

in the beginning 1jz were goin for 800-1k now they are about 1300. but the thing thats the best with a 1jz swap.. its easy. all we had to do was extend 40 wires and everything is plug and play.
i will soon be boosting 16psi on stock twins.. then once those go out i will be getting stock turbos with steel blades. hopefully i can get 25+ psi on those with a mix of 93+100 octane.
are u using the stock w58 with a gte + t61????
