I haven't seen those kinda 20whp gains with the SC4's I have been around 10whp or so is the averages I have seen...That is just Air and fuel tuning...With timing and fuel/air I would venture to guess you would gain 15whp....Like I said how are you tuning these cars to run, extremely lean? Go way lean and you can pick up some extra ponies but at some point you run the risk of engine damage at high rpms....No?

For all others:
The tuner is one of the more respected supra tuners in the northeast. One look at my dyno shows that I am not running stupid lean. No, I did not get this dyno off google. And from this thread, I am not the only one to get 15 to 20 hp gains off a simple safc tune.

makes sence, compare your air/fuel to mine.
mine dips to 12 from 5 to 6 k where your stays in a steady straight line.
Maybe my tuner could of done a better job....

Jibby do you do the tuning with a wideband?

My gains were also big with the SAFCII (N/A) Peak gains of 25whp +

Well, I am tuning with a brand new A'PEXi S-AFCII Super Airflow Converter...I had originally bought one and it failed on me..Sent it back into APexi and they sent me a new one for free....I have a new respect for the APexi company....They honor and stand behind there products like no other...Very suprised to get a new one shipped out to me for free after 2 years and no sales receipt...

Anyway, 8 whp is all we could get with several tuning efforts...The tuner control is plugged into the piggy back ECU and is a plug and play tune as you want according to each dyno result...I have a good tuner and we worked it, we went lean we went rich, and we could not make over 10whp...That is why I ask...Maybe my stock ECU is more in tune for starters maybe? I just don't know? A few other buds could not see much better results either on there SC4's, Split Second piggy too...Wondering what's up?

Verylost - relax on the google chart comment from years past...Don't think I didn't see that inside shot...Not cool...

jibby - i think you need to note that the people seeing 20whp+ w/ tunes have the 95+ SC400 which are slightly different motors to my understanding. our 92-94 sc400 is like the very detuned model.

Verylost's AFR was really rich before the tune, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. Look at it again, it drops into the 10s. And it looks like it took seven tries to get it where it is now.

His AFR in the first run reminds me of my old 04 Cobra, which was pig rich in the upper RPM from the factory(mainly to be safe since it was S/C'd). I think I picked up over 30rwhp when I had it tuned. I need to get my SC on the dyno before I do any more mods.

I really don't think the year models have anything to do with it...Stock setting generally run slightly rich on all the models...That is to ensure engine safety, settings provided by the manufactures.....When you go with piggy back tuning your objective should be to have the motor run leaner...That gives you the power gains.. My gains ended up being even less then 8whp because of the Nitrous system which needs to run slightly rich at the higher rpms.. So really the piggy back ECU addition didn't do much for my specific SC application...Glad it did something for of you guys...20-30whp is most impressive...

They do have better flowing heads with the newer models....But the factoy ECU setting are set to perform with that specific engine and should all be comparible.....Air/Fuel slightly rich....Could be more stock ECU restrictions with later models but I have never heard anything to that effect..Who knows?
