Problems with MAF adapter
Just bought an air filter for my 99 SC300, the problem is that the stock air filter box is glued to the air flow sensor tube! there are no screws so I can screw on the MAF adapter can anyone come up with a good idea to figure this one out?
Thanks a bunch!

This issue is something we came across when developing a High Flow Intake for the older SC series. It is all one unit, but I thought it was only for years '95 though '97. Can anyone else confirm this as well with a '99 SC?
This method of intake construction sucks for you SC owners that have this b/c the only real way to use an aftermarket type High Flow Intake with ECU would be to offer the product with another mass air flow sensor that is not attached to the intake. Don't see a way around this w/o somehow destroying the stock intake piece.

air box pulls off of the maf (mine wasn't glued..seems like just a rubber seal). i can't imagine toyota engineers made the the air box and the maf as one unseparable unit(maintenace reasons).
anyway, people with the newer (95?-97) sc400 maf could possibly use a k&n universal round tapered cone filter to attach directly on the maf. you just have to make sure you get the correct measurements of inside diameter of 3.5" with the longest flange length you can get. i ordered one (never came in yet) with these measurements(don't quote me on this though)
length 6.5", base of filter 5.5", top of filter 4.5" and flange length i think .75" or 1". just go to your local dealer and look through a k&n catalog.
btw, i can't guarantee that it will fit, but when i took apart the maf and the air box, a k&n with an id of 3.5" should fit. i'd suggest you take yours apart and do your own measurements before you order. the universal filter costs about $58 and you don't need an adapter. if the universal k&n does fit, i hope swift doesn't go raping us with some obscene price for a filter with their ecu upgrade. either that or sell the ecu as a separate unit to be used with a k&n.
anybody have first hand experience with putting one on?
also, before you order a k&n, i'd suggest you read up on this web site.

seems like any after market filter may not be that useful(the debate goes on...) unless you have a supercharger or turbo, in which case you will definitely need one. then again, the supercharged sc400 from powerhouse looks as though they used 2 stock airboxes. can't tell for sure from the pics though.
