Default 1JZ Water Pump

Ok Guys,

I _did_ search (1JZ Water Pump) but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I think the water pump is going out on my 1JZGTE.
I thought I'd poke around on our forums here as well as over at Supraforums, to find out if the 1JZ needs a unique water pump.
I have not been able to get a definitive answer.

Some people say that the 2JZGTE water pump fits, but you need the 2JZGTE pulley.
Some people say you also need a housing to make this work.
Some people start talking about eliminating the hyrdo fan when swapping the 2JZ water pump into the 1JZ.

For once and for all, let's get this in one place:

Can I replace my water pump by simply (and I know it's not a simple task) putting in a 2JZGTE pump with the 2JZ pulley?
What about this housing some people were talking about?
What's the right choice: new Toyota or rebuilt from AutoZone/Advantage/O'Reilly's, etc?
Can I re-use my existing belt? (provided it's in good condition)
Is there an advantage to just changing all pulleys in there with the Greddy 2JZ pulleys, while I'm in there (and since I have to pay for a pulley anyways)?
Anything else I should work on while I'm in there?

I apologize if this has been covered in detail before, but I could not find it.

Thanks in advance,

Marcus

IIRC if the 1JZ in question has a clutch fan, all you need to do is get a 2JZ water pump and you're done. If the 1JZ has the hydro fan then you need the pump & pulleys.

Thanks Kaosman.

Anyone else have anything to share?
I'll look this weekend to see if i've got a hydro fan or not, and make sure the leak is from the water pump.

Please share any more information or experience on 1JZ water pump replacement!

Thanks,
Marcus

you most likely have the hydro fan and the pump for it is just expensive...i have the same problem but with the jdm 2jzgte...the dealer (jeff at jay marks toyota) i talked to said it would be cheaper if i convert or look for an use one on the forums...give jeff a call and he can give you all your options plus they carry a lot of 1jz parts 800-327-2087

Can anyone provide the part number from Toyota for the proper Water Pump (2JZ-GTE?) used in a 1JZ-GTE swap / overhaul?

Thanks in advance!

If your 1jz came with a clutchfan, and did NOT come with a hydrofan (all soarers), then you can use a 2jz-gte water pump. I got mine for around 50 shipped on ebay. It's made by AISIN, same company that makes OEM toyota parts.

all soarers come with clutch fans? the way you worded that is kind of confusing when you read it, maybe it's just me.

so what you're saying is if your 1JZ-GTE is out of a Soarer, then you can use a 2JZ-GTE water pump.
