Default Staggered Cams On a 2JZGE??

- The cam gear on my intake cam has broken off the cam, so I was thinking on replacing the cam with a BC 264 cam for a 2JZGTE will this cause any problems? I would do both cams but Im not trying to spend $900 on two cams. I bought the car this way so I am not sure what caused this. Its a 92 SC300 factory 5-speed with 171,000miles and is getting a total overhaul, paint and body, interior, suspension, engine, everything, but I do have a budget to keep in mind. I am going to pull the motor and replace all the gaskets and seals, replace the water pump, oil pump, timing belt and other maintence related items while its out and apart. This will be a NA-T setup with a hp goal in the 450-500whp range
- I am going to take the head to the machine shop to have it checked out and cleaned up, if i get the 264 cam then i am going to get the BC valve springs too while im at it.
Engine parts list that I currently have
-Titan Underdrive pulley
-4pc polished Pulley kit
-IS300 Radiator Fans and shroud
-Mishimoto Radiator
-ARP Head Studs
-OEM Toyota water pump, timing belt, and belt tensioner
-TT head Gasket
-FFIM
-HKS cam gears
-r154 tranny
Thank You in advance

So I guess your forgetting the GTE head has no dizzy so a set of GTE cams will not drop in to a non turbo motor and lets not even talk about the fact a GTE uses 2 cam sensors on the intake cam that a non turbo head doesn't have.GL OP

And this is just the beginning of your problems.

You can weld on one cam sensor if you're running a standalone it will only need one. Lol.

Guys what he is proposing is using a 264 intake cam and the stock exhaust cam that will still drive the distributor, and yes this will work but I'm not sure how it will sound/perform with the 2 different duration/lift, but I have read the stock USDM GTE cams and the USDM GE cams are actually pretty similar to each other in duration/lift and are both better than the stock JDM gte cams, so you could consider just dropping in a stock USDM gte intake cam or you can always get a regrind on the exhaust cam to match the 264 later on, or get a 264 ge exhaust cam, or just replace it now with a stock intake cam.

By doing so you might increase overlap, which is good for an N/A motor. Plus those hks cam gears will help u fine tune the amount of overlap to how you want it in relation to the powerband you want.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. Could even buy a 264 intake cam for an IS300.

not sure about the intake cam from an is300, they are different because of vvti actuator on the intake cam, and probably won't fit without some machining down of the cam.
