Default coolant question (i did search)

search only came up on flush diy...my question is what color is the coolant supposed to be in these cars? i have always seen green in all my car previous. this one has a reddish tint. is it because it is old and i need to change it (i am was planning on doing that is why i am asking)and if so the green antifreeze should be good yes or no? i did read something about distilled water in one of the diy flush posts, any info will be greatly appreciated thanks

The original coolant is Toyota Long Life, red in color, mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Available at Toyota (or Lexus) dealers

Usually, green coolant supported a cast iron block engine, while the red or newer pink supports toyota's aluminum block engine.

And yes, steam distilled water or anti freeze / coolant out of the bottle should be the only fluids placed in radiator. Hose water has too many contaminants.

If your car has reddish coolant it is probably the Toyota coolant. The green coolant would be ok as long as it is also Glycol based. Personally I would just stick with the Toyota red coolant as it was made for Toyota/Lexus vehicles. A little peice of mind, it's worth the extra ten bucks.

the coolant hose behind the engine right near the fire wall ripped. it leaked down into where the spark plugs are. what a headache i have it fixed now but it took me 2 days. i cleaned the area thoroughly befor i removed the old plugs then changed spark plugs and wires, valve cover gaskets and painted my valve covers black with a high temp paint for grills. i am just happy the car is running again and everything looks 10 times better. i had to put the green stuff in it was an emergency to get home. but i will do a flush and put the good stuff in thanks alot for the replies. next thing on my list timing belt, water pump, cap, rotor oh and the damn power steering pump (sounds like it is on its way out) i changed the fluid like 5 times to flush out the old crap still squeeking.
