Default A/C Recharge for my 97 SC400

So lately my AC has not been doing its job on 90F+degree days..
I picked up a recharge can and couldn't get it to work right. .

Your suppose to hook it up to the Low side port...which is nearly impossible to get your hands around a quick release. I'm not sure i got it fully on.. When i tried filling it..i had to hold the can nearly upside down and the freon&oil misted from the top of the can..

I believe i'm on the right port..even thought the High side is extremely accessible..
Check out..

Low port side(almost impossible to hook up a recharge can)

Using this can...which looks like a lot of room..but if you need the can to be upright..it's impossible..

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Sorry I can't help, but I would love to know the answer too. 96 degrees today and the a/c was so so. I think a recharge is in my near future...

From my other friends(on Memphis & Little Rock Car forums) They say i'm doing it right..i'm just having problems with the nozzle...it's such a tight fit..and you need the car running..so things are hot(next to the right headers)..
IF i get it to work..i'll let you know...
There doesn't seem to be many FAQs for Lexus owners....I guess i've been running with the Supra guys too much...they have FAQ's on Everything!

don't do it on the high pressure side as it will release superheated freon back into the can... Personally, I dont think its a lack of freon causing your problem as much as the dessicant possibly being worn out. Do a little bit of research on the components that wear out the quickest.

it removes water from your freon. "Drys" it out for lack of a better term. As water gets into the freon, it reduces the efficency of your thermal expansion valve or orifice (by causing partial freezing and therefore, restricting flow).

^ He said Orifice!!!haha

I finally realized you have to complete the seal with your hand while filling... I bough a fresh bottle and retried the filling and it worked!! i was driving around with 67'F cabin temps. yesterday... going 4-5wks in the South with a weak A/C is tough.

damn man... im so jealous.. I did the same thing today on my SC3 only to realize my a/c line is bent/pinched by some canister looking thing and is leaking to the point where the 134a only stays in for a couple of minutes. Anyone know if the a/c line is easy to replace or fix?

btw, on my 92, the low pressure port is on the compressor itself. And while difficult to recharge with the can upright, it can be done.
