Default Paddle shift your auto!

I just installed something called the Supra Stick V4 on my 92 sc300 1JZ-GTE automatic these last few days. It's a total stand-alone ECU for the a34x transmission.

Its for custom setups, like if you run a PowerFC that doesn't control the OEM transmission. It has a full auto mode with several presets you can program in, or "Manual" mode, which i have connected to my cruise control paddle. Towards me is upshift, up or down is downshift. When in "auto" mode, cruise control functions as normal. I'm the first in the world to run it on a JZZ3x body, and i did document all my wiring (2 days of research, 6hrs of install). You tune it via a laptop and serial port. www.latentsolutions.com

Good for any 1JZGTE SC300 with the auto, who wants to stay auto and use the Apexi PowerFC.

"manual" paddle shifting is accomplished no different then OEM shifting, it just gives you control if what gear you want the car in. The whole time the car stays in Drive. Park, reverse, netural, etc works as normal. It has the option if you go under a set MPH it will automatically go into first.

It comes with a general A34x base map and car settings. You can make several maps and choose between them. You have to customize the TPS voltages, tire size, rear end ratio, crank sensor teeth, mph teeth, etc etc. It comes pre-programmed for a 1JZGTE JZA70 if u so wish, so most of the settings are pretty close. Right out of the box i was able to drive the car in manual mode without any setup.

If your still using your OEM ECU, u can hook that up to the SSV4 (it has inputs), and it has a learning mode that reads the cars ECU shift patterns.

Check the site, i think he charges around $360...

I spent some time with it now. In auto mode, you'll never know its not OEM with a mild tune.

What makes me wonder about this is the fact that both of the user reviews are coming from guys using level ten "built" auto's. I put the word built in quotes because I would hardly call what they do to a trans "built." Most of the hard core racers avoid L10 like the plague because it seems more people have issues with their stuff than people that don't.

I understand what you are saying.

Tranny's like the E-shift in an IS are made to be shifted through the gears manually, but older tranny's like the SC's are typically not made to run through the tree. Like the old chevy and ford tranny's, if you up and downshift them manually it can screw them up.

Now if this is used to just go from park to drive, neutral and reverse........ it won't harm it, but is outrageously pointless. Paddle shifting, SMG, is made to drive through each gear as needed, not to engage all forward gears without selection. Defeats the purpose.

So it's either pointless or harmful. Paddle shifting is used on the street as a safety option to keep your hands on the wheel when shifting. Paddle shifting is used in racing for the same purpose basically. That "park to drive" manuever sitting in the parking lot is not quite so tricky.
