98-00 SC400 Compatible Engines?
Bad news with my car. Without going into details. I need a new engine for my 2000 SC400. Anyone know if the 1UZ from a same year GS400 or LS400 will fit and work?

OMG NO!! What happened? Your car is by far one of my favorite ones on the forum! Anyways I would think that the engines from the LS4 and GS4 would be compatible since they are the same size. Although something is different with the GS4 engine b/c it is rated at 300hp while the LS4 is rated at 250hp to 290hp through the years. I guess the GS4 is tuned differently than the LS4 due to it being a luxury "sport" sedan. Any reason you aren't looking at just getting another SC4 engine?

Same motors buddy. Just different ecu's and there for timing and such that’s why they have different outputs
You should be fine.....

EDIT:Since your in so cal give me a call if you have problems sourcing an engine I know of a lot of junk yards that might be able to help!

the only reason the GS has a higher rating is because it brought less restrictive exhaust manifolds than the SC or LS. And you should be good with any VVT-i 1UZ-FE, by the way you mind saying what happen to your motor its really rare to hear about these motors breaking down for good?

Yeah, I'd really appreciate it if you could help me locate a replacement engine. Having a hard time locating a 98-00 SC400 1UZ engine. So that's why I was wondering if something from the other cars would fit and be relatively plug and play.
Please let me know. It's a pain in the butt right now because I have no car and use my folks' van after dropping them off at work at 5:30am.
Anyone that can help with a replacement engine, please let me know via PM. I have faith that the CL family can help me get her back in working order.

Im sorry to ask, but I've never heard a VVTi SC400 blow the motor. Can you tell us what happened?...maybe it isn't really blown...
Have you considered this? How do you know for SURE???

They are the same motors, except for the oil pans/sump. SC's are rear sump cars, whereas the ls and gs are mid sump. You'll have to swap oil pans to get an ls/gs motor to fit, but other than that it'll drop right in.

Here's what happened the other week. I was driving home at night and in the middle of a left turn the car suddenly dies. No power anything. I had enough momentum to coast to the other side and turn off the car. Trying to restart the car and the thing cranks but won't turn over without applying major gas. Once it got it to start, it makes this terrible noice like clankety-clank...clankety-clank (not good). Got it towed to the shop next day. CEL scan shows P0300, multiple random misfires. My mechanic checks everything and eventually finds no compression in two cylinders on one bank. Open it up and the valves are bent in those cylinders. Sent the part out to the machine shop and got it back the other day. Reinstalled everything. Started it up (starts fine now), but clanking sound is still there and very loud. Today he is checking the crankshaft for damage.
Maybe it'll be repairable (I hope). But I wanna be prepared just in case. I have no idea how this happened. The car was running perfect up until that day.
I still love the car.

I would suggest you post your problem on the GS forum, since more of those guys over there have the VVTi than SC owners do.
Sounds like a timing issue to me...did you have that checked to make sure that pistons weren't bending your valves?

OMG I can't believe it
She finally back home! Two weeks. Two new pistons and rings, three new valves, heads cleaned up, new plugs, new air filter.
Felt great to hop in today and drive her home. The downtime seemed like forever. Now it honestly feels like a new car.
Thanks for everyone's support. I really appreciate it.
