1993 sc400 knocking noise when shifting from park to drive.
Hi Guys, I am a newby but have a lot of technical skills to make repairs. Is there anyone out there that is having this problem. This is my daughters that she really loves. Each time the car is started and then the car automatic transmission gear is moved from park to drive or from drive to reverse it makes a clonking sound as is there is something loose or worn in the transmisssion, driveline or transaxle. Once the car is being drivein there is no noise. Only when you change the automatic shifter to a gear when parked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks kylessc400,
I will check and let you know what I find. The car has 138K miles so I am sure that might be the problem. I am replacing the front lower lca's and struts with original o***s in a couple of weeks.
Is there any aftermarket coolant expansion tanks available? She has a crack in the top black plastic near the coolant sensor.

Those leaking tanks are a common problem, and a new one from the stealership is well into the 3-digit range.
They sell these polished aluminum coolant tanks on eBay. To my knowledge, no one has tried using them on our cars.
There's no provision for the coolant level sensor, but not all of our cars have that, anyway.

Thanks, one other question; what is the best way to remove the front lower control arm ball joint so that I can install new bushings. I have been unable to find a thread or DIY illustration with stubborn ball joints.
