Default Car occasionally taking time to change from Park to Drive/Reverse

I did a few searches but didn't find this exact problem. Just a few days ago my car started taking its sweet time to change from Park to Reverse or Drive when its been sitting a while. Also, it slipped out of reverse into a sort of neutral when I was backing out of my garage this morning. It doesn't do it while I'm driving the car, and the transmission operates smoothly otherwise. I had a new neutral safety switch installed the a week ago but I don't know if that could have anything to do with it. All comments are appreciated.
