Default Replacing Alternator and Leaky Power Steering?

ok, my Power Steering has been leaking and well, today my alternator crapped out on me.

i got stuck on side of the expressway today....i called my friend to give me a jump.....car is fine if its connected to his battery but 30seconds to a minute that its off, car dies.

so im positive its the alternator---it happened a month ago and i just replaced it with brand new battery too.

how hard is it to change both?
wheres a cheap place to get one?

thanks
