Default 98-00 sc4 motor in a pre-98??

I am gonna get slammed for this nooooob question and without searching thoroughly but wondered?

If not mistaken the 290hp v8 is in the 98 and up models. Will that motor fit in the
250hp models without major mods?

Not an expert on this but my thoughts...

Probably need to do the full ECU as well, different engine management for the VVT-I.

Is the tranny in the pre-98 4 speed auto and the 98+ 5 speed like the GS and LS?

Dave your right.... forgot about the tranny..

Buddy has an sc400 (92) with a very tired engine... He's been asking me to
take it and for exchange for some owed $$

My thoughts were to bring her to ALigas brother and have the motor swapped.

If this happens it will require tooooo much work.. must be a pre-98' motor

Thanks

If going to the trouble why not make it a project?

Instead of getting the expensive stock ecu buy a stand alone? And swap it to a manual transmission... ... that would be nice..
