Default 1jz v v t i swap info a 97-2000 sc 300

Anyone done this exact swap, i have a 99 sc 300, bought a 99 vvti soarer motor set, going to start the swap soon. I have read alot on here, seems every year is different. Dont know what will be needed until you try to put the new motor in?

Any tips or known problems i should look to avoid or address before the swap would be great to know.

thanks.

I use the jdm ecu and factory us auto ecu to run the car? The factoy sc 300 driveshaft should bolt right up to the jdm auto ecu? Any other things i should look for? Parts lists?, gaskets to be checked changed while motor is out of car?

Do you only have the JDM motor? AFAIK the gearbox in the VVTi Soarer is different from the usual (ie. older model) Soarer auto gearbox. Search up on here but I'm pretty sure it all bolts up from memory.

I'll have a look for the transmission code on mine to see if it's different from my old Soarer.

Default swap

Another photo of the engine, i am hoping this will be an easy swap since its a 99 soarer engine to a 99 sc300 both auto.

What other items would be of concern, items to replace while the engine is out? I had a harness extension made just plug and play to the jdm harness, 30 inches longer.

I know i will need a 2jzgte igniter, maf from a 2jz, new accessory belt, possible timing belt, new exhaust system. Any seals that commonly need to be replaced.

Will i have to change the powersteering lines? Any wiring clips to be swapped? Keep any of the us parts, ie ac compressor, ecu etc, etc, I guess i will find out, if you have any info from when you did it, it would help.

Thanks

Hi there,

I never swapped the motor in my car. I own a late model JDM Soarer with the VVTi single turbo motor and matching auto gearbox.

The exhaust should bolt up from the cat, you may need a new front pipe made up (the JDM one has a pre-cat thing on the front pipe) and I noticed it says that your pack includes the exhaust manifold, so depending where they unbolted it from (most likely the cat) it should mount up, just pay close attention that you don't foul the steering rack.

Usually the later model engines are still in decent condition but I'd have the rocker cover gaskets replaced while the motor is out (shouldn't be too expensive and you won't have to worry about them leaking after you've changed them).

As for the power steering lines, ECU and harness wiring try searching for them as I wouldn't have a clue about that.

Hope that helps... can't wait to see the results!

Bill,

Check to see the harness plugs that connect to the body of the car fit on your sc. One of the local guys rising_sun faced that issue when he was using a non soarer harness.

Default plugs

This setup is from a soarer so it should be the same, i also had the harness made up to be 30 in longer from rich at autosports. I will pull back the carpet to look at the us ecu to see if its the same. Here is a photo of the jdm one if that helps.

Default here is the us ecu

This is the photo of the us ecu, its alot bigger than the jdm one, not sure if that means the auto trans ecu is combined with the factory ecu? I would think it wouldn't matter because the engine, harness and ecu are all changed?

The red circle is the extra area that i am unsure of, the blue area looks like the jdm ecu size, the plugs on the jdm ecu are different than the us spec.

Photos of the harness i purchased to follow.

Default harness

This is a harness that you can have made vehicle specific, i found them online, hopefully it will make the swap alot easier.

Autosport Wiring, if anyone needs his info pm me.

Again I think, i really wont know until i do the swap. So no one did this swap yet??

Was rising suns out of a soarer or chaser?

Hi Bill,

I have a 1JZ from a Soarer. I didnt have to extend the ECU wires but the connectors that go to the body (On the passenger side foot well) have to be extended. 2 white connectors, an orange and 2 grey connectors. Just make sure they're the same as your USDM connectors.
