Default VIDEO..what's this cricket noise?

Started noticing this "cricket" sounding noise a couple of days ago...checked all the fluids and only the power steering fluid was a little low, but that would make a whining noise anyway. Serpentine belt was replaced about 2 months ago. Other than this noise, car is rock solid with no other issues.

The noise gets faster with the engine, but doens't match the rpm's. A/C on or off doesn't affect the noise, neither does the clutch being in or out.

Your timing belt or drive belt tensioner.. I'm 100% sure of this.
Link to buy one
I think they are working on the site though.

THAT is a bearing. I'm 100% sure of this

For real, alternator or water pump is most likely. That's similar to a belt sound, but the high pitch makes me think more metallic, which is a bearing.

hhmm maybe.. my 95 SC400 I had made that EXACT same sound when my tensioner started to get old.. it was the bearings in the tensioner

Sprayed the serpentine belt with a little belt conditioner and the noise got worse..then gradually got back to normal. When they replaced my A/C compressor they put the old serp belt back on, and it squeaked like crazy, spraying it with belt dressing made it do away for about 2-3 mins...swapped on a new belt from NAPA and life was good.

I would say the conditioner helped a little once it quieted back down. Crap...no road trip for me....

Shouldn't be anything that will effect the car that much. I drove with mine making that noise for MONTHS before I got it fixed. Even the shops said its not that big of a deal...

I'm sure you need to get it fixed, but you probably don't have to rush into this one.

It was the belt. Apparently the belt conditioner left over from the other belt was still on the pulleys. It was causing a problem or I just had a bad belt. Pulled the belt off, washed down the all the pulleys with carb cleaner and wiped them off good...put on a new belt and it's quiet as a mouse. My mechanic said the tensioner was fine and the marks on top were in the right spot.

HE ALSO WARNED TO NEVER, EVER SPRAY BELT CONDITIONER ON A RIBBED BELT.
