Default Which is a better engine?

Which one is better to go with for the turbo swap? a 1jz or a 2jz-gte?

Depends on your budget, but 2JZ-GTE is unbeatable while the 1JZ-GTTE is cheaper and easier to do however you don't have the substantial aftermarket support as the 2JZ does.

Well what do you mean by better? Ease of swap, price, potential power, what? I'm gonna say 2jz because I like the displacement and well, it's a 2jz!

ok i gotta little better idea.... so in terms of power which is better. you guys said 1jz is better to swap. and which would b easier on the pocket.

2JZGTE all the way. These motors are bomb proof. You can never go wrong with a 2JZ

2JZ-GTE is better. You can get the JDM 2JZ-GTE engines for the same price as most 1JZ-GTE engines, so go with the 2JZ-GTE because it has better support and more displacement!

IMO, an over-square 2.5 is a handful with a heavy body like the JZZ30/31. There isn't much low torque to start with and once you start tuning the engine the problem gets worse. This isn't necessarily a problem if you are happy revving it all the time but that gets a bit much after a while. Also, the stock converter stalls at about 2,200 so if the power doesn't come on until 3,500 (like mine) then good 60ft times are hard to come by - I'm stuck at 2.4 seconds.

I'm getting round this by fitting a the 1JZ head on a 2JZ engine that I have bought. But that's mainly because I have also bought a single turbo and manifold for a 1JZ. It does save me having to swap out the electrics, though.

Here's a tip from bitter experience: if you decide to go for a single turbo then buy a complete kit. I've tried to do it piecemeal (I'm cheap!) and finding all the right parts is proving to be a nightmare. I've been trying to find a frontpipe for two months. You may have better luck in the US.

Every 2JZ motor set I've ever seen is twice as much as a 1JZ swap from JHot.

see the thing is im not going to be racing (maybe wen someone tries to test me lol) but i just want more hp. And since i cant get a supra tt i wanna bring the tt to me Plus a 4k turbo kit is only a single turbo, for that i can get a engine and have sum money left over.

I have around $1700 total in my 1JZGTE swap. Its a beautiful clean beast too!! The aftermarket is the same for the 1JZ as 2JZ, thats not an excuse. If your looking for 500hp and under and not looking to spend alot, the 1JZ will make you more then happy. The only reason to have a 2JZGTE is for bragging rights, but of course the 1JZ also draws a big crowd too. Heck any turbo lexus is a crowd pleaser
